How to speed up your PC (Cleaning up your Registry + Hard drive with ease)

This will be a guide on how to specifically speed up your computer significantly by cleaning your registry and hard drive. There's methods to do this without programs, but I am more about teaching people the basics on how to do such things since most users have trouble remembering commands and how to navigate to certain parts of a PC, so it's best I teach you the programs first before teaching you the alternative methods.

    Programs required:
    -Auslogics BoostSpeed: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/boost-speed/download/
    -Revo Uninstaller Pro: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

    Introduction to Auslogics BoostSpeed:
This is a very handy program, and a very basic program to install. With this program, you will be able to clean your registry, clean your hard drive, defrag your computer, and secure your computer with a click of a button with the 'One Button Checkup' feature. Let's get started.

    Open Auslogics BoostSpeed:

As you can see, the interface is very user friendly and basic. Don't let it fool you, it's small but powerful. It has three basic quick-open options.

    -One Button Checkup
This is a very handy tool when it comes down to cleaning up your computer and speeding it up near maximum performance. This includes Disk Cleanup, Defrag, Registry Cleanup, and a security checkup which secures your computer from all security risks.

    -Disk Cleaner
This tool will clean temporary files and unneeded files on your computer that can potentially slow it down. I normally run this at least once a day myself to keep unwanted files on my computer deleted. (Includes Java values and browser temp data)

    -Disk Defrag
A very, very helpful tool for Windows. A defragger re-layouts the files on your hard drive for faster access which makes accessing files faster on your computer. So if you wanted to open a music file or video file, and the file is not fragmented it will open with ease.

For this guide, the all-in-one tool 'One Button Checkup' is what you will want to select since it's easier to use than going through each one. (If you can not find it, open up Auslogics BoostSpeed and look at the picture shown above, it has it in a red circle)

    -Registry Cleanup
Whenever you install a program on Windows it will write registry values in your registry. After uninstalling a program some of the values stay in your registry which can result in slower performance since the values are not attached to a specific program. This will also fix any registry errors you may have.

    -Disk Cleanup
Similar to the Disk Cleaner, this will clean just the unneeded temporary files and so forth on your computer. It's recommended you use both this and the Disk Cleaner for the best result.

    -Disk Defragmentation
    (Same as before)
A very, very helpful tool for Windows. A defragger re-layouts the files on your hard drive for faster access which makes accessing files faster on your computer. So if you wanted to open a music file or video file, and the file is not fragmented it will open with ease.

    -System Protection
Another very useful tool. This will make sure either windows firewall/antivirus (or your third party firewall/antivirus) is enabled. Very helpful to detect if something is disabled. Recommended you use this if you want to help protect your computer.

To run 'One Button Checkup' simply press 'Start>' and it will begin to scan for errors with those four processes. (Three pictures to show it in progress)

Very simple, and very helpful. Now onto Revo Uninstaller Pro.

    Introduction to Revo Uninstaller Pro:
More than handy program here, this does not only have the most advanced uninstalling algorithms but also speeds up your PC. The setup with Revo is also very simple as you saw in Auslogics BoostSpeed.

    Open Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Once again a very user friendly interface, it may look cluttered and confusing to some but I'm going to guide you through the basics to uninstall, how to work the autorun manager, cleanups and much more.

    -Revo's Autorun Manager

This is bound to be the most simple way to cancel programs from starting up when you boot your computer up. All you have to do is uncheck the items you wish not to be running on startup and your done, nothing else for this procedure besides to uncheck the ones you don't want.

    -Revo's Junk File Cleaner

Again, a very easy feature to use. Simply press the highlighted 'Scan' button and it will begin to scan the selected drives (off to the right, you see drives to scan. If you are wanting to scan different drives as in externals, secondary hard drives or even flash drives select the ones you'd like to scan) After the scan is complete, simply check the items you want to delete and click the 'Delete' or 'Remove' button and it will remove the selected junk files. For me, I searched and it found no junk files so I will update this once I get some type of junk files to be more in-depth with this.

    -Revo's Windows Tools Feature

With this feature you have easy access to tools in Windows at your fingertips. With these many features, you may access all the programs by simply double clicking the program/batch file you wish to use. All the programs listed are for advanced users only, I would not advise you to use any of these programs/batch files unless you know what you are doing. I will be making a separate guide on most of these programs and what they do in full detail in the future.

    -Revo's Windows Cleaner

I'd suggest you select all the processes to be cleaned for this feature. This will clean/remove the following:

    -Recent Documents History
    -Start Menu History
    -Find File History
-Printers, Computers and Find people history
    -"MS" Paint recent file history
    -"MS" Wordpad history
    -Regedit last key opened history
    -Common Dialog open/save history
    -Common Dialog last visited folder
    -Start menu usage logs
    -Clipboard history
    -Empty the recycle bin
    -Temporary files
    -Crash memory dump files
    -Check Disk recovered fragmented files

Will remove all the listed items/history with a click of a button! Simply check what you wish to remove (all safe, recommended you clear all for the maximum outcome) Then click 'Clear' which is shown in the picture above circled in red. It will prompt you a few times 'Do you want to delete XXXXXX" and so forth, simply say yes as it's just asking permission.

This concludes the basics of these two amazing programs that can help you greatly to increase your computers performance. I recommend you use these processes at least once a week to keep your computer healthy. I will answer any given questions, simply post or add my MSN and I'll get back to you. I will update this as needed. This took roughly three hours to create, so I really hope this helped some of you! ^_^
