    Attack speed Calculation

What's the equation for attack speed % buff from items to your champ?

I'm making a rune page and let's just say I add 10% attack speed. What's the equation to figure out what attack speed I'd have of a certain champ at a certain level? I can't remember it lol.

    Attack speed Calculation

Armor and/or Magic Resist (Defense) Formula

    100/(100+Defense) = % Damage Taken (100 Armor = 50% Reduction, 200 Armor = 66.7% Reduction, etc.)

This makes defense sound like diminishing returns, but it really isn't; another way of thinking about it is, 1 defense = 1% more of your max HP versus that type of damage. Someone with 1000 HP and 100 Armor is just as tough versus physical damage as someone with 2000 HP and 0 armor. Someone with 1000 HP and 200 Armor, same as 3000 HP 0 Armor, etc.

That said, for Magic Resist, since magic damage tends to come in great big bursts with long periods inbetween, it does make sense to look at % Damage Reduction; therefore, it is generally less efficient to have more than 100 MR.

    Dodge Formula

Whenever a champion is attacked, they check whether they dodge by 'rolling' (like dice) against each of their individual chances to dodge, starting with the largest; for example, Jax might roll first against his 18% chance from his Counter-Strike skill; if he doesn't dodge there, he then rolls against his 12% from Ninja Tabi, his 7% from runes, and then his 2% from masteries. The chance that he won't dodge, therefore, is the probability that he will fail every individual dodge chance at once. This is calculated by multiplying the "chance to hit" in each roll.

    Chance to Hit = 82% (Counter-Strike) * 88% (Tabi) * 93% (Runes) * 98% (Masteries) = 65.8%

And his Dodge Chance is, of course, 100% minus the Chance to Hit, or in this case 34.2%.

You can see that this is significantly less than the sum of his dodge chances (39%); this is why Dodge is said to have "diminishing returns": the more you have, the less effective more Dodge becomes. Essentially, each Dodge chance you get only reduces the chance to hit left after the previous Dodge chance.

To counter champions with high Dodge Chance, currently the only item you can use is Sword of the Divine; it gives 55% attack speed, and makes every fourth attack you do deal 100 bonus magic damage; it can be activated to give you 30 Armor Penetration for 5 seconds, and your attacks cannot be dodged for the duration. You might be surprised how effective the item can be...

    Attack Speed Formula

Attack Speed is expressed as the number of attacks your champion will make each second. Your Raw DPS can be calculated by multiplying your Attack Damage by your Attack Speed. Your Attack Speed can never go higher than 2.5.

Attack speed gained from items is additive: it adds that percentage of your champion's natural base attack speed to your total attack speed. If you have a natural 1.0 attack speed, and you get a Last Whisper for 40% attack speed, your new attack speed is 1.4.

Attack speed gained from buffs is (generally) multiplicative: it adds that percentage of your champion's current attack speed before the buff. For example, if you have a natural base 1.0 speed, and buy a LW for 40%, you have 1.4 speed. If you use an ability that gives you 50% attack speed for a short time, you gain 0.7 attack speed, not 0.5, making your new total 2.1. If you have multiple multiplicative bonuses, add them all together, then apply them.

doctor awesome from the LoL forums

What is the EQUATION though? I've seen a ton of different ones =/ I understand what you are saying though. Thanks for the other equations too.

    Are you wanting this?

Champion base attack speed + (Champion base attack speed * .1) = Attack Speed ; Attack Speed + (% bonus from items * Attack Speed) = Real Attack Speed

    Attack speed Calculation

From what I understand is that it is calculated off of the champions base attack speed.
