Giving Miniranks to Donators.

I'm generally short with suggestions, so here it goes.

Background:
1. In a lot of video games such as Hearthstone or the Runescape Squeal of Fortune there is a certain addictive rewarding sense in getting a randomly generated prize which can vary in value.

2. Many Market-Only users who support the site are not given a way to earn miniranks.

3. There are a large amount of miniranks, varying in rarity making this idea more feasible.

Objective:
1. To encourage donating as well as making miniranks more accessible.

2. To give incentive on reaching higher donation levels, including those past current "reward tiers".

Suggestion:
I am suggesting new donators be given a way to earn miniranks through randomly generated prizes, based on tickets earned through donating.

Example:
1. For each $25 donation the user receives one ticket.

2. Thread is set up in donor lounge. There is a very long list of possible prizes (some could be things other than miniranks) with numbers attached.

3. User uses the roll function to spend his ticket. Frequency of prize depends on rarity. eg. "Penguin" would be extremely difficult to obtain with one ticket (maybe only 1 spot on a list of 500), whereas "Gooby" would be much easier (10-20 spots on this list.).

Other Ideas:
1. Add Fun Ranks as an extremely rare drop.
2. Give out Tickets occasionally in Sand box minigames instead of straight miniranks.
3. (x) Posts being rewarded with a ticket.
4. Milestone miniranks (donator minirank etc.)

 

These similar examples-- such as runescape wheel of squeel-- also have a way for people to participate without paying cash. Would that also be implemented? Maybe one free spin per X amount of active days?

I'd support this idea either way.

 

Definitely supporting Sypherz idea. Nothing to be added to be honest. It's great as he described it. I completely agree some users who arent active in spam / community forums have difficulties with earning miniranks. It's easy noticable, just look at profiles of the biggest gold shops.

I think Matthew could introduce it to Sythe User Center, I dont think it's possible to implement on forums through.

 

Extra spin every (x) amount of posts. Infractions reset the post count/spin(s). Something like that for a free thing, if added. It'll give more incentive for being active too.

Sure. Instead of directly giving away miniranks in Sand Box competitions, Tickets could occasionally be given out.

I wouldn't support spins for number of posts because, even with the infraction safeguard it would encourage spamming market threads with bumps. If I wanted, with 5 threads, I could collect 15 posts a day in less than 10 minutes.

That being said it's not a bad idea.

 

I definitely like the idea of infractions resetting regardless of what's used as credit

 

I find it better post removal/warning = reset.
Sometimes mods just delete posts without infraction/warning

 

Because harmless spam isn't much of an offence unless it's excessive

Deleted posts come from more than just reports which would cause problems

I don't think you should punish people for infractions.
If I spent $100 and expected 4 tickets, then got them reset because I accidentally overbumped I would be pissed.

1. It is unnecessary complication
2. Unnecessary work for moderators
3. People will use their spins right away anyway

If we're talking about resetting progress toward free spins that is fine. But what is earned/purchased is theirs.

 

This is a fantastic idea, Morgan.

Not a fan of resetting tickets, however, but everything proposed in the main post seems like it would generate a fair deal of positive activity and buzz for the site.

 

I'm in all favor of sypherz's suggestion, however I do not support the resetting/removing of infractions idea. It would defeat the whole purpose of infractions (warnings) and give users the excuse to blatantly spam anywhere they'd like.

 

That would just lead to more spam posting.

 

not only that we're gonna see an influx of reported posts for stupid reasons like 'oh he bumped 7 hours 58 mins ago' or 'flaming' when in reality it's not that bad

i like the idea otherwise

 

I support this, much like gift boxes on private servers. Why not if it'd increase donations, miniranks are stupid anyway.
