    Xbox overheating

    Alright...

My Xbox will overheat within 10 minutes of playing ANYTHING (dashboard included, even downloading shit without having the Xbox on) excluding BLAZBLUE CS. Does anyone know how to fix my Xbox? I've had it replaced numerous times now, but never for this problem. Is this common? Is my Xbox fucked?

It's an Xbox Elite by the way, I got it in '05 and I think they've just fixed mine and sent it back each time- Otherwise it's from '09.

That is a pretty good cooling system that my friend uses. His has never over heated since purchasing it. Also considering it over heats so much I would suggest opening your xbox up and seeing if there is a lot of dust crammed in there. That can be a major cause with your system over heating.

What Bubba Fuzz said. Buying a cooler will keep your heating problems down to a minimum. I suggest not opening your console up unless it still has warranty, because they won't replace your console if it has been opened before.

I heard of this method where you stick an object in the fan part of your xbox, and it blocks the fan, then when you let go it works overdrive and keep your xbox cool. If not just put it near a fan, or on the window ledge and open the window. Good luck.

I forgot to mention I've had the dust sucked out twice now, the Xbox isn't genuinely warm either- it just 'thinks' it's overheating.

I spoke to a professional and I was told my Xbox was sent back with the incorrect year's power strip. Damn Microsoft. It's a required replacement...

I had this problem aswell, i sent in my xbox and had it repplaced within a week.

My xbox itself wasnt over heating, it just thought it was.

Can be caused by damaged parts, or outdated parts.

    Best of luck to ya

You could try getting an intercooler, and if that does not work, depending on how brave you are there are a couple things you could try. First thing, if your warranty is still valid, send it back, it will get fixed within a week or two. If not, try wrapping your xbox in a couple of towels or blankets, then let it run for about 30 minutes. This causes the heat syncs on your motherboard to re-melt which may fix your overheat problem. If this does not work, you could take your xbox apart, and take the motherboard out, and replace the shit microsoft provided heat syncs (they will look like bandaids) with 2 pennies wrapped in electrical tape. They will act as your new heat syncs, and this may also fix the problem. Hope this helps.
edit: if you need some guides on how to take your box apart, or maybe some other fixes try this site: www.xbox360iso.com

For now, don't open your console before you get the permanent ROD. Install the cooler and then open your console. I believe that should solve your problem.

I've decided I might as well just get a 360S to get rid of the problem entirely. I bought a refurbished Xbox and used that power strip and it overheated the same way, along with the intercooler attachment, it's unfortunately just the Xbox this time.

    Thanks for your help, guys.

My mates Xbox did this, so we took it apart and cleaned it all up. It was ridiculously dirty, and the cooling system was stuffed full of dust and fluff. After that, it worked fine.

If it's a component problem, apparently wrapping it in a towel and leaving it on for a while fixes it, because it re-solders the components. But if it goes wrong then your buggered.
