    General Overwatch Hero/map tips

This isn't much, but hopefully it gets something started. All tips that people reply to this thread with will be added in.

    OFFENSE

    Genji:
    • Genji is perfect for taking out turrets and Bastions in sentry-form with Deflect. Get as close as you can without being seen. Turrets will auto-aim you within 40 feet, so try to be close before getting in the open to use Deflect. Sentry-Bastions you can usually surprise, so try to pop down in front of them, wait till they start shooting and use Deflect. Almost always an instant kill because they start shooting right away.
    • Personally, I have Jump bound to the right joystick when you click it in (and melee bound to X), this helps so much to jump around when trying to kill someone as you don't have to move your thumb away from the joystick just to jump. That being said...
    • When trying to kill someone as Genji, don't just move around, jump! Seriously, Genji has a passive double jump ability so use it. Much success is made by jumping around when trying to kill someone
    Mcree:
    • The best attack combo for Mcree is Fan The hammer > Roll > Fan The Hammer > Stun > Headshot. If you can't kill someone with that, it's best you switch to someone easier. Maybe try Mei or something tbh.
    • Always stay close range or covered when playing Mcree. While some Mcree players have mastered mid-range shots with his Peacekeeper, most players really can't do it. Never be out in the open, your stun grenade doesn't really have much range so it works better when you can catch players by surprise by going around rooms/hallways.
    • When your Ult is ready, tail behind Mei's or Zarya's who also have their Ults ready. Deadeye works best with their Ults, make sure you can't easily be picked off when you use it though

    Pharah:

    • One of the best things I've ever done is binding Pharah's Hover on to the Left Trigger. She doesn't have an ability on the LT slot, and it's so much easier to hover in the air and shoot rockets while holding the LT and pressing RT to shoot.
    • You would think this is obvious, but a lot of Pharah players don't do this- for bigger opponents, shoot rockets straight at them. For smaller/more mobile opponents, shoot rockets at their feet. You're better off getting splash damage from the rockets on a Genji than trying to hit their hitbox.
    • DO NOT use Pharah's Ult when you're facing the other team. Pharah's mobility allows you to get up and away from their team, so hide away until their backs are towards you. When you're ready, rocket jump up and wait until you are decently close to them to use it. Works well when you're Defending because the other team is usually around the payload trying to move it forward.
    • Roof-glide! There are tons of roofs on almost every map, use this to your advantage to get across the map faster. When you rocket jump, hover towards a roof and when you start to slide on it, hover a little bit and let go, hover, let go. You let go so your fuel can build up. When you're near the end of a roof, your fuel should be full enough to hover to the next roof.

    Reaper:

    • His Ult is best used when the other team is scrambling or not prepared. So use it when you come out of nowhere, like jumping down from somewhere and using it. This allows you an extra second or two to not get attacked. If they see you coming, they can easily attack you before you get fully through your Ult.
    • Never waste your Wraith Form ability. It should be used almost only to escape from combat, because you really never know when you'll need to escape. Especially playing Reaper since you pretty much need to be exclusively close-range to shoot.
    • You know those glowing orb things you see after killing someone? They heal you. Grab them. Never not grab them.
    • If you're playing against a Reaper, watch for his shotguns on the ground. That usually mean's he was just there.
    • Use his Shadow Step to teleport behind your opponents or behind a Bastion/Turret

    Soldier 76:

    • If you're shooting long-range and even mid-range, quickly tap the shoot button instead of holding it down. Your reticle stays small enough for better accuracy. You should only hold it down when you're close-range, obviously.
    • Tactical Visor instantly reloads your clip, so if you're going to use it try to shoot your clip empty and then pop TV on. Also, try not to use TV when facing the enemy. It's decent to use when you're facing them, but the element of surprise helps much much more. Also when TV is on, keep your reticle near one opponent at a time. If you're moving it everywhere then it's only going to get maybe a third of the clip on one hero, a third on another, etc.
    • Like Pharah, sometimes it's better to use your Helix rockets for splash damage against faster/smaller heroes.

    Tracer:

    • Be shifty when you try to kill an opponent. Empty your 20-round clip into them, blink behind them, turn around, empty your clip, etc. Most casual players don't have their sensitivity high so it takes a good second for them to turn around to you.
    • Save your Pulse Bomb for tank heroes, like Winston or Zarya. It does a lot of damage but it won't kill a full HP tank so just be careful. Blink to them, throw it on, and blink away. I like to save the Recall only when I need it.
    • Recall removes any debuffs! So if you're being affected by Zenyatta's Orb of Discord, Widow's venom mine, or even Ana's poison mine, just recall and it's instantly removed.
    • I can't recommend being shifty enough when you play as Tracer, so I'm adding another note of it. That separates a casual Tracer from a pro Tracer. Use all three blinks and recall if you need to, just create havoc for the other team. Remember that time you got pissed off because that Tracer keeps killing you? Yeah, be that Tracer.
