When I used to work for Gamestop, we would prosecute the hell out of people who did this. I think its silly to prosecute for so little and for what is considered trash. But please just be careful when you do. Good luck!

Edit: Best time to go is Sunday Night and Monday Nights due to resets occurring Sunday night/Monday morning.

Not sure how many people are gonna recognize this name but before GameStop as we all know it took over, there was an absolutely wonderful place called funcoland. I'm not sure if it's 100% true, but I've heard from former employees that not only would they toss out any boxes (If you remember the NES - N64 days, you remember the bulky boxes they came in), but supposedly in the early 2000s they ended up burning a large bulk of cartridge games because they couldn't clear them out. Employees were also not allowed to take any, only burn.

Also since it's sort of on topic, you remember the big kiosks they used to have where you'd play mario tennis and pokemon stadium demos? The stores used to be shipped the games to use in kiosks which are demos and labeled "Not for resale". Well after those stores started closing down, I guess some managers and store owners swiped a few of the games because I own several demos on Super Nintendo and n64. If you grew up in the around dallas area, chances are I have one of the very demos you played if you were ever in some of these game stores down here.

Have fun with the diving guys, it's a shame you didn't get on this earlier when they were clearing out gamecube games, you probably would have hit the jackpot.

Im pretty sure as soon as it goes in the trash and ita public property. Not sure they can actually do anything but i may be wrong.

I was thinking it would be funny if you found a few games then sold them back to gamestop lol. Also empty cases can be worth something at flea markets. Some people will buy them there for like 50 cents each. Also ebay is a good place to get rid of cases/Manual's.

there is nothing illegal about it, unless the trash can is locked then it is perfectly legal. once something goes out in the trash it is PUBLIC property

Seems like a lot of effort to go through for some empty boxes and posters. Then again I guess you could get lucky and find something awesome.

The garbage contents may be public property, but the property you're going onto could be private. That's the only way I could see you getting into trouble for doing it.

I don't think that'd be a problem though. Some areas, however, do prohibit garbage picking. You just have to do your research I guess.

It is illegal if you go onto private property. It is still technically their property until It leaves the premises.

It could be different state to state which is why I said be careful.
