    System Shutdown and User Accounts

    Hey guys,

I honestly don't know how active this section is, so hopefully someone can solve my issues.

Before I begin, I am using Windows XP Professional SP2.

My main issue at the moment is whenever I connect my computer to the internet, a shutdown thing pops up and gives me 60 seconds to save any work and it shuts down. This issue has something to do with lsass.exe. I've Googled the error/shutdown message and nothing has worked. I will edit this post with the full error message the next time I turn my computer on/connect my internet. I did discover that this may be a virus, however I used Microsoft's Malicious scanner tool plus my own anti-virus (Kaspersky) and did a full scan of my computer, with nothing being detected.

I did find a temporary solution, which is to go to Start > Run > cmd > shutdown -a, which aborts the system shutdown.

Edit: Here's a screenshot of the shutdown:

My second problem is user accounts. Apparently I'm not logged in as admin, although I only have the one admin user account on this computer.

Either way, it doesn't even show under Control Panel > User Accounts

    Nothing displays:

I think it has something related to the RPC server, and I've tried Googling my problem however none of the solutions have worked, for example:

Definitely feel free to ask me for more info if needed.

    Thanks.

Edit: Forgot to mention, this happens after a while of being logged in:

The Shutdown options disappear and the computer name/display picture disappear too.

    cmd

    sfc /scannow

    Try that.

Also, how come you're on SP2? SP3 is the latest and is by far the best.

    I've tried that.

Just did it again and the same thing came up:

And SP2 has worked fine for me so far.

Downloading SP3 right now anyway (it's taken 3 hours to far and it's only at 205mb/316mb, is that normal?).

    Thanks.

Edit: Should I look for that Windows XP Professional OS CD to sfc /scannow or just wait until I finish downloading SP3?

Hmm, I forget XP is different to Windows 7.

If you have the disk then yeah insert it then try and do the command prompt.

SP3 always takes a while to download. You should get it as its the latest one supported by Microsoft.

Updating to SP3 solved this problem.

    Thanks.
