The Return of the Wilderness?



Remember the good ole days of Runescape? Back when you were brand new to the game and still trying to find your way?

Remember that one day, you were wandering around varrock, when a random player comes up and requests you for a trade. Up goes an offer for 100k. Both of you accept. You just got 100k richer due to the kindness of another player!

BOOM. 2007 comes around. Jagex decides that it's going to put an end to Real World Trading and Botting. How might they do this you ask? Removal of the wilderness and trade limits of course! And that fast, all of Runescape changed forever. People were angry, riots broke out in every world. Hundreds of thousands of memberships were canceled.

But over time, people began to get accustomed to these new restrictions. But the fact still remained that many were unhappy! No one could help out their poor friend who was new to the game. They couldn't give them that extra 100k boost they needed to stick with their goals. More and more people began to fall away from Runescape.

So here we are, 3 years later. The dedicated Runescape players that have stuck with Jagex through the good and the bad. What is left for Jagex to do? They have new methods to catch botters and RWT's. They no longer have the need for trade limits.

This is what Mod Mark Gerhard had to say -

"I regularly hear from both the community and the Jagex team that we should reintroduce free trade and the excitement of the old Wilderness, warts and all. As you know, we removed free trade and the Wilderness in 2007 to combat botting, gold farming and item scamming. Since then, we have produced new content that provides comparable gameplay and mechanics to allow increased trade limits with long-term friends; however, we are still regularly being told that something is missing from the 'good old days' of RuneScape."

Hence, Today, the 21st of December, 2010, Jagex has announced a chance to bring back the old Runescape. Wilderness and no trade limits alike.
