Do homeless people feel shame and thus avoid social contact?

A homeless man sat outside my fence resting on his journey heading south. At first I thought the silhouette I saw was a trash bag blown against my fence so I went to see about moving it. The homeless man was about 28-30 years old and hasn't been out of the military very long. The recession left him with no place to get a job and no place to stay. I offered to give him my bicycle so he wouldn't have to walk. I offered to give him a ride to the truck stop 11 miles down the road so he wouldn't have to sit in the cold. He politely thanked me for the bike and help but refused both. It was as if he was ashamed for me to see him in this predicament and in a hurry to be alone again.

It is a shame to see an America Military service man suffer homelessness while crooked politicians in the White House and Congress live "High on The Hog" with all their PORK extortion as they scam, rape and loot the American economy.

I wouldn't generalize. Some of the bums I've seen on the street would murder there own son for a dollar. He's probably clinging to what dignity and self-respect he has left.

I know what you mean. My brother was walking past this person on the street, he has his cap on the floor and he put in some money. He gave it him back and said he'll only use it to buy coke.

There is a tramp (what we call them in England) that sits in the same place everyday with his dog, it was late and me and my friends were out drinking and he got up and walked off after we came out the pub, as we were drunk and the next club was a while walk away we followed him to the car park and he got in a nice car (it was dark so we couldn't see what car exactly but it looked like the new Audi)

From that day we have never gave him money or anything.

I don't know how, but I guess there are some FAKE homeless people lol.

There are like 3 different kinds of homeless people:

    1. Alcoholics/drug abusers who habits put them on the streets
    2. Divorce or lawsuit forced them on the streets
    3. War veteran who came back after a war an had no profession, money, or schooling.

You don't know what put them on the streets.

What about people with disability's who are unable to work?

I don't feel sorry for them one bit, I'm sure they served in the military, isn't that the same excuse they all use?

My friend's mother is mother to 3 kids. Including one of her sons being a Neurologist and another in the military. I am friends with the military son and he tells me stories all the time of how he has to go pick up his grandmother off the streets at night. For some reason, this 90 yr old woman would rather roam the streets all day and night and pick up cans to sell, than stay in her beautiful home.

There is really no point to that, other than the many many different reasons a bum is a bum.

My uncle lived as a hobo for several years, I still to this day have no idea why. Not sure why someone wouldn't want to live in a nice house or apartment, maybe that's the thrill of being homeless.

I'll ask him next time I see him.

Good of you to offer him your bike.

I hate the homeless who use dogs to try and drive people to give them money. It makes me angry, and want to take their dog off them...but I cannot look after soo many dogs.

The drug addicts are the worst. I saw a guy wap out a pack of fags, and no chance was he getting anything :p

It's not an, "excuse". Instead of sitting on their asses they went out, and served their country, to protect little pricks like yourself. While you were sitting on your ass in your house playing RS, they were out on the front lines.

Don't be so naive. Let's see you try to get a job with little-to-no education, especially in this economy.

He'll lose his dignity eventually. If youve ever been to a large city Im sure you've noticed that theres very social homeless people everywhere.

Obviously you've never seen or seen anybody who has seen war. Who wants to hire a guy who has gone insane from the things he/she has seen or done? How would it look to the employers business when you have customers complaining that there is an employee laying prone in the middle of a store because he heard a loud noise?

Its really difficult to go back and live a normal life after a very traumatic event like Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan.

    You fuck.

It's a mixture of sadness, regret, unambitious etc.

On the other hand, he is very disciplined not to accept such a great offer from you.

Who knows in this case :S
