Hey all, this is my fourth guide, and I thought it would be nice to make a guide on healthy/unhealthy eating – and the implications of each. The best way to lose weight is to: 1. Increase your physical activity and to 2. decrease the number of kilojoules you eat The features of "FAD DIETS": • The promise of rapid results • The limitation of intake to certain foods or food groups • The provision of very low levels of kilojoules • The purchase of a product (a book, video, food supplements) • The use of personal testimonies in advertising Advice to maintain healthy weight: 1. A healthy weight is where you don’t feel too fat or too thin 2. Eat mostly cereals etc (low fat) 3. Choose fat-reduced products 4. Avoid fried foods and high fat products (chips, chocolate) 5. Avoid FAD diets 6. Do not diet by skipping meals, especially breakfast 7. Do physical activity every day 8. Accept the positive points about your body 9. Body shape and size are largely genetic 10. Energy in = Energy out Many foods claim special healing qualities; • Tomatoes: lower the risk of prostate cancer • Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts: Lowers risk of cancer • Fish/seafood: Blood pressure/steadies heart rhythm • Tea: Lowers risk of cancer and helps maintain a healthy heart • Red Wine: Thins the blood, aids circulation Outcomes of Unhealthy eating: 1. Illness. 2. Direct costs. 3. Excess 4. Deficiency. 5. Indirect Costs. Illness: • CVD • CANCER • DENTAL DISEASE • DIABETES (TYPE ) • OSTEOPOROSIS Direct Costs: • HOSPITALISATION • MEDICATIONS • MEDICAL SERVICES Excess: • HYPERTENSION (SALT) • DENTAL CARIES • HEART DISEASE • GALL STONES • ARTHRITIS Deficiency: • HYPERTENSION (potassium, calcium) • DENTAL CARIES • ANAEMIA • CONSTIPATION • CANCER Indirect Costs: • WORKPLACE – LOSS OF PRODUCTION • ABSENTEEISM • PREMATURE DEATH • FATIGUE Bad habbits are hard to break, so dont start on the wrong path Post here, as i give individual advice for health related/sleeping related problems. good guide. could use pictures and maybe suggested eats. Also why does it say formerly moddarator under your name?
i'd rate it a 8/10 guide to the average overweight or underweight member. But as a real nutrition guide i would say its 6/10 with many wrong ideas. I'd advise everyone reading this from the ages of 12+ to lift weights 3-4 times a week and do some kind of cardio 2-3 times a week. Find out their maintanance calories per day, +200 or more for gaining weight and -300 to -600 when trying to lose weight. Do not try to gain or lose more than 1 pound a week. You will either lose too much muscle when losing weight and would gain too much fat when gaining weight. I'm really glad that someone on this site actually cares about their body.
Can I really gain that much weight? I skip breakfast everyday these days (or almost every day, I'll eat lunch every now and then (3/4 days a week), and always eat dinner. I take some vegetable/fruit snacks in between and in the middle of the night (I've also sort of become nocturnal recently) Is that bad?
To an extent. You're diet is aiming on general health, rather than weight. Skipping breakfast is a NO. When you skip breakfast, you're body eats into the stored fat in the body, as you have not eaten for the time you have been sleeping. You can lose weight - Yes Is it healthy - No It's healthier, and works out better to have many small meals, rather than nothing the whole day - then a huge dinner. Nothing wrong with fruit + vegi snacks at all.
For a guide on diets and dieting, it's far too short - most of it is common knowledge. Everyone knows "reduce caloric intake, avoid fatty food, exercise, most diets are a scam." I also wouldn't agree with 'eat lots of cereal'; most of it is crammed with sugar and carbs. Even the self-proclaimed all-natural stuff can be unhealthy. (On that note, I would have addressed what such 'all-natural' labels really mean.) The healing qualities are interesting, I guess. Sources would nice, though.
It's basic .. It's far to wide of a spectrum to put everything in. I help people individually on this site, - to their request on msn. I helped b1b today. If you have any questions feel free.
He helped me a whole lot on msn. I explained him all of the poor habits I've been having. He told me how to better each aspect in detail. He was a great guy to talk to, and he helped a bunch thanks
Although the rest of your guide is just a generic, extremely broad reiteration of the basic facts of health, I will break down some of your suggestions on health. 1. A healthy weight is where you don’t feel too fat or too thin. Incorrect. An obese person may feel as if they are not fat, however their weight issues can, and will, cause health problems in the long run. 2. Eat mostly cereals etc (low fat) Cereals are actually one of the worst lies that has been flaunted as a healthy breakfast. Most are loaded with sugar, and almost all are wheat based. The fact that they have "low fat" is irrelevant, since the fat content of a food has nothing to do with how fat a person is. 3. Choose fat-reduced products Again, wrong. Fats are an essential part of healthy eating. The types of fats you are thinking of are the saturated fats, which are not ideal, however they have little affect on the fat content of a person. That comes primarily from the caloric intake they maintain, as well as the breakdown of the carbohydrates they have in their diet. Healthy fats, such as oils, peanuts, avacados, etc, are actually key in maintaining a low body fat percentage when coupled with other healthy habits. 4. Avoid fried foods and high fat products (chips, chocolate) Fried foods, yes, fatty foods, no. 5. Avoid FAD diets A diet, by definition, is a fad. A diet typically means that a person has temporarily changed some particulars in their eating habits, in the hopes of a permanent change in body composition. This makes it a fad. So yes. 6. Do not diet by skipping meals, especially breakfast True. Actually it is recommended to be eating closer to around 5-6 meals a day. 7. Do physical activity every day Depending on the type and intensity, Ill agree with this. 8. Accept the positive points about your body Getting into the whole feel good, you are perfect how you are jazz, but I guess this works for some people. 9. Body shape and size are largely genetic Not really. I am 5'8. my mom is 5'4, and my dad i 6'2. My mom is extremely overweight, and my dad weighs less than me. Studies have shown that genetics really only apply to people who recieved "good" genes from their parents and are able to maintain a good body composition with less effort; for those claiming the genetic card to explain their lack of will to eat well or lead active lifestyles, its just an excuse. 10. Energy in = Energy out No idea what you are getting at with this. Thats all I got for now : P
You have a skewed concept of what is defined as a fact. Not all of your corrections were factual, some were plain misinformation. Could you please dig up the study you referenced in which genetics only apply to people with "good" genes, before my laughter causes a hernia? Your definition of diet was incorrect. He is more than able to use the terminology FAD diet and not all diets are fads. A diet is just a composition of the things you consume. You are using a corrupted definition. Body shape has little to do with fat content or obesity. It is most directly a reference to bone structure, the features of the body and their proportional relationship to other features. You can't claim something fact just because it is something you believe to be true. Personal concepts don't tend to beat down science that often. edit: Also, since when did critical mean specific? I simply said that you were being too critical (critical: marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws) and it was causing you to provide invalid feedback.
"You have a skewed concept of what is defined as a fact. Not all of your corrections were factual, some were plain misinformation. Could you please dig up the study you referenced in which genetics only apply to people with "good" genes, before my laughter causes a hernia?" I said more often then not, which I maintain. "Your definition of diet was incorrect. He is more than able to use the terminology FAD diet and not all diets are fads. A diet is just a composition of the things you consume. You are using a corrupted definition." I was agreeing with his definition of diet. I also agree with your definition of diet. I do not agree with diet as a temporary change in eating habits, which is what I was saying. "Body shape has little to do with fat content or obesity. It is most directly a reference to bone structure, the features of the body and their proportional relationship to other features." If by body shape, you mean muscle composition, then you are wrong, plus I never really said anything about body shape at all? "You can't claim something fact just because it is something you believe to be true. Personal concepts don't tend to beat down science that often." Show me something that is factually invalid with what I have said please, as I would love to discuss it. "edit: Also, since when did critical mean specific? I simply said that you were being too critical (critical: marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws) and it was causing you to provide invalid feedback." Fair enough, although I still don't see what invalid feedback I have provided, regardless of whether my review is critical or not : P
For best way to lose weight, add 'starve body of carbohydrates for 2 weeks'. This puts the body into shock and your body starts to use all the reserves thus losing weight. After 2 weeks gradually start reintroducing carbs and after a while get to a normal/healthy level of carbs. Most people today eat way to many. Hope you take this into consideration and this is not a 'fad' diet.
