    JaGeX vs Botting

Today, I was thinking about re-joining the botting game on Rs. I used to bot accounts for my own profit or sell it to someone for... well, my own profit. But a thought occurred to me while I was contemplating the pros and cons of the situations; what if all the legitimate Runescape players are driven to quit due to botting?

I mean, let's be realistic -- Jagex will do everything in their power to stop people botting and unfairly obtaining money and items. But if there's a massively popular game like Runescape there will always be people striving to cheat at it. How many times have botters been shot down in the past? And look at what we have today: a bigger, more determined, more advanced botting community. It seems like there is nothing Jagex can do to stop them... er... us.

Sure -- there will be times when Jagex takes a big leap and releases a new, better, more complex way of stopping us, holding us off, and the entire community and it's most skilled developers will band together and outsmart Jagex with some crazy-ass Java scripting. And we will seem victorious. There might even be times when botting seems to be utterly defeated and will be swept under the rug for some time -- but someone will emerge with a new development and the botters will return.

Eventually people will get really, really frusturated and stop playing alltogether. More likely, a bigger percentage of the population will convert to "the dark side" and join in on the botting. Sure, some determined, legit players and their clans will remain. But all they'll be doing is wandering a scourged, battered, defeated version of Runescape where botters and merching clans run the marketplace & economy. Who do you think will prevail?

Tl;dr - Botting keeps evolving and seemingly can't be stopped, and Jagex cant ban everyone. Will botters take over Runescape?

I'm quite sure that it is highly unlikely that all legit members of RuneScape will quit.

Also, it would be extremely annoying if every member 'converted to the dark side'. I would hate to see botters everywhere, stealing your spots, getting 99's - It would make you feel ... Common. Having a 99 is special, but when every one has one ... Well, you get my point.

I feel like Jagex does what they can to make sure at least 10% of Runescape players are kept in the dark. Until about 3 months ago, I had NO IDEA that bots even existed or were possible, as Jagex does a good job lying to their players (e.g. "There are no cheats in Runescape"). I feel like there will always be that 5-10% of little kiddies and braindead oldies that are naive enough to believe this, and this will keep Runescape from completely collapsing. But for the most part, yes. We may someday come to control the game.

Not every member, but a majority of the population.

Exactly my point, by the way. When botters are running rampant and getting 99s and Mils left and right without even putting any work into it -- what will there be left to do? The idea of getting a 99 will be shot, and all your hard-earned items and money will be pointless. You'll really have nothing to show for all the hard work you put into your account -- and eventually you'll be driven to quit.

I think if the botters control the game, the economy will shoot up, because of all the money that will be pumped into it.

When everyone is lvl99, Jagex will up the roof to max levels 120 or 200.

This is an interesting point, and I've thought about it before. It's the same reason I opted not to even bother botting Aion, considering their player base is mostly bots. We've already seen accounts dropping in value, and it could be because botting is so much more common and easy these days.

Let's be honest. Botters Caused everything that is wrong with Runescape now. There's no denying it.

Free trade was removed beacause of it, the wilderness is also gone.

Botting has caused the game to turn to shit imo..

Free-Trade was crushed and Wildy as stated up above. You can't deny it. Wildy shut down because BOTTED MAULERS and MAGERS were part of the reason. And Free-Trade was from rwt and the money obtained from BOTTING. I think they should up the possible high skill to 120. Make it funner. And add a couple skills at a time and not just 1 every couple months. Then more people race for 120 in more than 1 skill.

Majority of players know it exists, and if you do a google search on "runescape bots" the first result (at least for me) is rsbots.net.

Legit players must understand, without bots, the economy will crash and everything will be much more expensive, making Runescape much harder.

So legit players must deal with bots.

Personally, I hate bots that take up space, for example, green dragons.

What do you think the economy in the game would be like without botters selling thousands of logs, ores, etc, everyday.

The common user would need to play A LOT more to afford these things.
