What should I include in my birthday list?

Hey guys, my birthday is coming up pretty soon and every year my extended family pretty much expects that I send out a birthday list. They use it to get a general idea of the kinds of stuff that I'm into or specific clothes that I might like instead of just giving me a generic gift card.

note: In our family that's how we do it, all the children/young adults are ASKED to write a list so that the family members can get them stuff that they are interested in. Maybe that isn't how you do it in your family but that's how we do it in ours. It isn't considered demanding/rude to make a list because its just a family thing that's expected, they even call and ask about it if you don't. Please keep that in mind when posting, I'm looking for interesting things to check out - not your opinion about how "spoiled" you think I am or "how you shouldn't make a list" because honestly I will just disregard it.

I'm looking for some cool cheaper stuff to add to the list (maybe $5-60ish)

for example this is something I found: http://www.amazon.com/Bicycle-Second-Edition-Playing-Ellusionist/dp/B0018DPOMM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1376527698&sr=8-4&keywords=BICYCLE+BLACK+TIGER+PLAYING+CARDS

I'm looking for suggestions about some cool specific things to get, not anything else.

    About me:
I'll be turning 17 years old
I'm very into tech/gaming type stuff
I'm starting school soon, so maybe there is some school type stuff I could use?

Throw out things that you might personally ask for/things you think I might like based on my limited description and I'll consider adding them to my list ^^

They generally don't like sending money.

Don't really feel the need to pay $1100 for a netbook that I'll be using just to take notes with/basic web browsing. A chromebook is 2.5lbs with 6 hours of battery life and will suit me perfectly.

I want to hear some suggestions guys, if you had money to buy stuff for yourself what would you get?

Did you just disregard everything that I just said? The only thing I'll be using it for is taking notes in class/basic internet browsing. I need something cheap and lightweight with battery life. I ALREADY OWN both a laptop and a desktop that are for more intensive tasks such as gaming.

Its only $250, and its perfect for what I need.

No offense, but with every post you make you sound more and more spoiled. "I already got desktop and laptop etc. etc. etc.". Just ask for a couple of gift cards and get out of expecting everyone to get you nice, expensive shit. You know there are plenty of kids out here that don't get, in their entire lives, how much you'll get on your 17th birthday. I don't even think I was getting gifts at all any more after 15.

You should feel bad about this... Wow this is just spoiled to the very core, at least you admit I guess..

"The only thing I'll be using it for is taking notes in class/basic internet browsing" Why do you think you need a separate computer for every step you take? I've been going through college with a spiral and a pen. Anytime we have an activity that involves a computer, I can easily use the lab there. Or god forbid, just use your other laptop.

Do you never feel ashamed for asking for all of this stuff? Of course no one is going to tell you it's wrong, but I thought people would just eventually recognize it. Stop saying you need, too.

What should I include in my birthday list?

My dad went to school for 15 years and now we live a good lifestyle. He donates a large amount to charity every year. I was just answering someones recommendation about getting a "real" laptop since I already have one.

For example instead of saying "I'd like a gift card to hot topic" I can show them specific clothes that they know that I'll like and appreciate. It doesn't necessarily need to be "expensive" hence me asking for some cheaper stuff to put on my list. Also keep in mind for my family a $100-200 gift isn't really a big deal/a financial burden in any way.

The point being? I shouldn't have anything nice because others can't?

I'll admit what I said there came across as pretty spoiled/I regret saying it. In our family its probably different than yours, we get most of our stuff all at once both on Christmas and Birthdays. For the rest of the year if I was to point out a tshirt or something to my father he would say that I should write it down for my birthday or something.

Because I'm not carrying a 13 pound laptop to class, also it is a complete battery hog so after 15-20 minutes it dies(the battery is going bad too). Something light with a lasting battery will be great for class.

I prefer taking notes with a computer, as 90% of the kids do at the university that I'll be attending. And as I've already explained lugging my full sized gaming laptop around would be impractical.

Its not like I'm demanding stuff, that is how it works on my family. To make birthday and christmas shopping easier we send out lists a little beforehand. Its something that my grandparents etc ask for and expect. Why should I feel bad about asking for things for my birthday? That might be something that you don't do in your family and might seem demanding and inappropriate, but in ours that's how its done.

PC hardware is a good one, I put a newegg gift card on my list because I think that's easier for people.

They don't like sending me cash for some reason, they think its too impersonal etc.

Hell yeah, I'm already armed to the teeth though. Have a springfeild xd 9, springfeild xd 40, a glock, and two shotguns. I was looking at the beretta shorm though and it looks awesome (looking for some cheaper stuff to put on my list though).

As I've already said they aren't really big into sending cash. I have a full scholarship for two years though so right now it isn't a huge concern, I'm planning on get a computer related job this fall though :p

If you don't need it, don't ask for it. There is no point getting something "just because you can". If I was so well off, and had extra money i'd save it in a savings account for a rainy day, you'll never know when you might need it.

What should I include in my birthday list?

Like I said, they want specific gifts that they could send, our family doesn't really send eachother cash. I was just looking for some cool "smaller" things that I could include. Maybe some cool tech thing that was cheap or a good book, that sort of thing.

I'm not really getting any suggestions at all, more people just complaining about our family liking to send nice things to eachother and/or suggesting cash. I'm just going to have the thread closed and I'll look around on my own.
