Does a cure for this exist?

 

Not really. If you purchased from a store and have the receipt, you can reach out to apple to get it unlocked otherwise I don't think there is a cure for it.

Haha, no. The opposite. I found a phone last weekend in the sea, kept in on charge an on, but no one called. I read that you could unlock the screen to get the contact details of the person who lost it and figured this may have been my only option. However, it's now all sorted - the phone has been returned to its owner

 

This is the biggest issues with iPhone if someone factory resets them before the old owner removes it from their apple ID there's nothing you can do and the phone is essentially e-waste

 

Look up some magic boxes for iPhones. Inside corruption and repair reflashing might still work.

 

The guy was probably wanting a new iPhone from the insurance company, and you ruined his plans
