Fraud, a serious offense.
This is a message to aware everyone about fraud and why you should not do it.

Story:
I have a VPS service here on Sythe, and a recent user FS Nasty purchased a VPS off me which I provided the details to and set it up for him. He used it for three days, then decided to file an 'Unauthorized Transaction'. It was disputed, and automatically reversed to his account. I called up PayPal's general manager about this issue and he detected it as fraud. Yes, he is going to reverse the reversible payment to me but that's not the point here.

If you have intentions on filing a claim on somebody after a service has been completed, it's fraud. PayPal is reserving the right to convict him of fraud. This is a warning to anyone who may have intentions on scamming somebody or committing such actions.

With any company, or any personal business it's not tolerated. I'd advise all Sythe users that offer services to look into this. PayPal does listen to you, and they fully understand situations if you tell them in a logical manner what exactly happened. Not only will the person have the potential of being convicted of fraud, but you will also receive your money back if it is fraud with the dispute canceled directly through PayPal (depending on the case).

Fraud is not taken lightly as it's a serious legal offense. Please take this as a warning, do not make a mistake that can change your life forever.

Furthermore, I would like this to be a discussion thread on fraud, and have you ever encountered this problem before. Did you resolve it? How did you handle it? Informing other users will prevent the number of scammers here on Sythe. Knowledge is power.

Rs and virtual scams are hardly legally fraud. Also, paypal doesmnt always listen . Esp when involving rs which is what sythe is nased on.

I have never had fraud committed against me, mainly because I do not do trades/sales on here.

Thank you for taking the time you did to form this passage and inform us all about fraud, means a lot to me personally. Because I hate scammers and hackers, and just low-lifes.

I'm glad to say i have never had to deal with fraud. I'm also hoping this thread helps to make sure that i never have to deal with it. If someone planning on commiting fraud read this, i'm sure it would convince him/her to do otherwise.

Thanks for this thread.

You don't have to say it was for runescape, just say it was for virtual services. The point of the matter is, you can call them up and ask to talk to somebody about a claim that's been filed on your PayPal (If it's an unauthorized claim, the manager clearly told me it's most likely fraud) You don't have to state your on Sythe as well. Just say you offer virtual services to people. Fraud is fraud, there is no in-between.

Thanks for the feedback besides Tony, I don't get the point of the yawn.

Can you even claim a fruad case over a runescape account, due to the fact a runescape account is owned by Jagex Ltd?

Anything based on real money is dealt with seriously. Even if it deals with 'virtual' services.

I have only been scammed once and that was with RS money. No biggie.

If you where to let's say sell a runescape account and hes trying to reclaim the money as an 'Unauthorized Transaction' that is fraud. You'd contact paypal (preferably through the phone) about the transaction. Tell them you offered a virtual service, the service has been completed yet the end-user is trying to re-claim his money from the service that has already been done.

Paypal doesn't support virtual item trading. It wouldn't work either way.

Paypal supports virtual goods, I don't know what you're talking about :)

I've had to deal with fraud twice on ebay, but I never bothered with sythe because the amounts were so small that the time spent wouldn't have been worth it. I satisfied myself with getting them banned on sythe ^>^

Question: Can I contact PayPal (without a phone call) to tell them what happened if I'm unverified?

On-topic: Thankfully, I've never had to deal with any fraud attempts. Haven't traded much in the markets, and most people don't scam you when you run a torso service.

Chipp is 100% correct. In most cases Paypal has too many serious offences to deal with to devote man hours onto your $250 case especially if it is for virtual goods. As for the part about "Unauthorized Payment", Paypal will look into that accounts previous IP addresses and decide whether it is true or not. In most cases, if the location is the same, it is deemed as fraud.
Secondly, when an issue like this arises, contact your district attorney. The will contact Paypal and forcibly regurgitate all information that Paypal has on the case. Depending on the amount of money that you have been scammed of, your DA will file charges against that individual and have a warrant for questioning sent to their local police.
To all sellers of accounts and or services, I would recommend having your counties District Attorney in your phone book at all times. For the most part, they can diffuse this issue quite well.

You can email Paypal at any of the methods shown here: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_contact-general
I have the best responces speaking with them directly via phone. Email is very slow for a responce and usually they tell you to call them anyway. Find a phone and call them. It may take an hour or two, but it will be faster then the 4 day email wait.
Verified or Unverified does not matter. I would suggest having at least a credit card or prepaid Visa registered to your name on your account.

Actually thats a common misconception. In the US and the UK, virtual goods have no real value. For this reason, Paypal ALWAYS sides with the buyer over disputes. You cannot physically ship virtual items, thus there is no proof that you actually sent it or not. Believe it or not, sending the items in game does not count as shipping. You must send it to a real life address.
If selling virtual goods, I would describe it as a service. If selling an account, state that it is a service of providing a user with certain details. If it is an item sale, state that it was a service of transferring the item. Paypal usually sides with the seller on services.

Either way you lose. If you were to take this scammer to court, however, I doubt any judge would take the case, all evidence would have to be submitted. The courts would contact JaGex, making it a hassle for them to deal with. In turn, they would most likely ban all accounts registered to your current and previous IP's for rule breaking.
Even if you get your money back, you lose what you are trying to sell in the first place.
