FPS Issues?

I am experiencing horrible, just absolutely awful, FPS levels fluctuating between 1-18.

It has never been this bad, and I have played on and off since 2005.

I am wondering what would be beneficial to my laptop to run RuneScape more efficiently. I have read countless forum topics regarding this issue with still no improvement.

My computer specs are as follows, Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.60GHz, Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium, 2.0 GB Visible Memory, Graphics Card: DisplayLink Graphics Adapter, Graphics Memory: 448 MB, Display Resolution: 1280 x 800, 36/101 GB.

With those specs, what would you recommend me changing or improving with my computer? And also, what download speed should you have for RuneScape? I only play minimum graphic settings @ fixed. I also have used DirectX but am unsure of OpenGL and Software and don't know which is best. Thanks for your time.

 

a better gfx card/memory couldn't hurt, a faster proccessor aswell, mind aswell get better ram to while your at it, the main thing is rs has had alot of changes since 2005, server wise, and graphical wise.


computers are like cars, you can milk it for years, but evntlly it's time to upgrade.

Update Java.
Do all Windows Updates.
Clean up + defrag your PC.

Ultimately you'll need to upgrade/buy a better PC eventually, that PC is quite old now for RS.

So internet connection really doesn't affect my FPS at all?

 

I may be wrong but im pretty sure it doesnt, really the only thing internet affects is lag/ping.

 

The Internet speed doesn't affect the FPS.

 

I notice that I can't get under 80 ping on a runescape world, why is that? I live in Michigan, am I too far away from the servers?

 

Most likely that. Anything that makes it take time for your signal to reach it's destination.

 

Part of the problem is from Jagex's end, they've admitted themselves, that it is because of a fault in the game engine. But most of the problem is down to your Gfx card and CPU apparently.
