Arrested

Well I was arrested last night for arson. Charged as a misdemeanor. I will be getting a court date in the male etc. I did admit to the crime also saying I did not know it was a crime.

The story..
Waiting outside for a friend.
Sitting on benches.
Me and friend get bored.
He lights bag of chips on fire.
I throw my old homework on fire.
Somone calls cops.
Cops come in and arrest us both for arson.

I'm 16 and my friend is 15.
We had to go to the station get searched questioned mug shots fingerprints etc. Then my dad had to pick us up.

What can I expect at court?
and What can I expect mine/his sentence to be?

 

a like 100-2000 dollar fine. Dont think you'll get any jail time or anything, maybe some community service.

 

I doubt it would be quite so severe, as long as you inform them of the real truth, and nothing but.

It's hardly a notably disgraceful crime.

Dunno the punishments there but here we probably only would get a warning lol.
Maybe some fine... No like juvie or anything ^^

 

Yeah i'm not sure what the charges for arson are. But I wouldn't worry about jail time or anything, considering you were just lighting paper on fire... But I would expect a hefty fine (couple hundred dollars maybe).

But i'm not sure what court will be like, considering i've only been to traffic court.

 

Thats lame, nothing serious will happen.

yeah but there was no property damage it was on an iron bench so nothing that wasnt our property got burnt. The iron maybe got hot at most. Cop was saying we might get arsonery classes or something

When you turn 18, you can request that your minor records be sealed.

 

yea I know that I can seal them at 18.

It can't be a warning or infraction its a bit late for that. I was already arrested handcuffed forms filed, fingerprints etc.

It's a misdemeanor.

Oh and do I have to put criminal charges in a college app?

 

Nothing serious, shouldn't pay more than like $500 at MAX and like a few hrs of community service

 

That sounds bad. All you will have to do is pay a fine and I don't think your going to jail.

No, you don't. Minors are not obligated to divulge their criminal records.

At this point, if you have gotten a lawyer, you can look for technicalities (such as Failure to state Maranda rights) in the arrest that might get you off the hook a little bit.
