Does anyone else have a hard time reading? I can't read more than page out of a book before my brain starts wandering. If you have some tips for staying focused, I could really use some.

Sit in a chair at a desk rather than laying on a couch or a bed. Focus real hard on the words and turn off your phone. You could also go to the library or some sort of study hall.

Also, sounds like you may need a diagnosis on ADHD or some sort of diagnosis like that. Not being able to read more than a page is something I would look into to be honest. I'm the same way so I know how it is!

Natural methods are usually better than chemical ones. I haven't taken Adderall, but if I take Ritalin I can concentrate amazingly well but I can never sleep until it wears off :s (it is different for everyone).

I have the same thing I guess...well, more so I get bored with what I'm reading (in regards to studying), and start to procrastinate. Just tell yourself, 'once I'm finished, I'm free'. Look towards the satisfaction and freedom upon completion. I find that works best with me when studying for exams.

Reading large volumes of text is fairly easy if you find it interesting or entertaining. If you're talking about reading in general, then read about things you find interesting and you should be fine. I'm not sure what to say if you're getting bored when reading about things that interest you, that seems really odd. If you have to read things, such as when your studying for an exam, try and make the readings entertaining. Try and link what you're reading to stuff that you find interesting. It makes reading a lot easier and studying more effective.

Another thing, which goes without saying is to ignore distractions.

Mine are on the 18th, two on the 19th, and last on the 23rd of June. I really hate that timeline. Can't study for shit as I procrastinate too much. I wish they were 4 days apart, i.e one on the 11th, 15th, etc. Prefer having them sooner, as long as I have 3-4 days between each, I'm golden.

Haha, mine are on the 9th, 16th and 25th. I feel you though, last semester I had 3 in 2 days, and in highschool I had 3 in a 30 hour period. Not fun.

Depends on the book, really. I'm the person that is motivated solely by interests, other than that, I simply cannot pay attention.

I've never read a full book in my life. The thoughts in my head drive me off track from the text and causes me to forget what I just read, it's annoying but whatever.

Some people just arent suited to it. Try downloading audio books from audible. Not so handy for school books though.

I really hate to be this guy but have you tried smoking a little herb and reading? I cant hardly do it without!! Smoking has always made reading wayyyy more interesting to me. Ive got a few friends who do the same thing, it works for us. Some people cant focus while stoned but I am quite the opposite, if you occasionally smoke give it a try. I know it sounds unappealing but its really quite pleasant.

I always have Netflix going. I can't just do one thing anymore. I don't read because then I can't have more than just that stimulation. It is a slight problem.

I should have been a little clearer: I love reading. I read every day and I've got stacks of books on many different subjects all over my room. No matter what I'm reading though (study material or not), I can't keep my thoughts from drifting every couple of pages. It's not usually problematic, but it is something I'd like to reduce if I can. The cell phone is hardly ever a distraction for me, it's really just my wandering mind.

Roary, I'm not too sure about ebooks. I feel like it might be too hectic to have to keep rewinding anytime I need clarification, whereas with physical books I can meditate on any portion of the text for as long as I need to in order to understand it.

and yes nodnar, I've tried that and I agree, it is pleasant... but I can't afford to buy at the moment!

Adderall and Ritalin are out of the question lol.

Dang! Ive been partaking and reading spanish for dummies lately, totally surprised at what I retain but it does seem to help. Nietzche when baked is sometimes a little too hardcore for me!!

Does this happen with your personal books based on your interests or just school and other mandatory reading (if you are in college)?

OPs done it and it works for him, different strokes for different folks. I only suggested it to those who partake in first place.

I don't have any issue staying focused when reading for fun, especially if my phone is not where I can see or hear it. However, whenever I have to read for studying, I have to have absolutely EVERYTHING else around me done (apartment clean, dishes done, already eaten).
