Fish Breeding

Does anyone on this site breed any type of fish, shrimp, etc?

 

How do you make them mate?

 

I used to breed Discus

 

How did that go for you? My friend does that and makes a couple hundred a month. I'm currently breeding African cichlids. More specifically, O.B. Peacocks and German Red Peacocks.

Are you looking to do it to make profit or for feeding your other fish?

 

my buddy breeds giant fuckin shrimp. shit is sick.

 

Really no point in breeding non-exotic fish. Interested in the margins of profit doing this.

 

As of right now with 1 75 gallon tank, with a divider im currently making around $200-$300 a month. Nothing crazy but ill be expanding slowly every 1-2 months. My goal is to one day open up my own freshwater fish store.

 

What kind of fish are you breeding and where do you find buyers?

 

African cichlids. Right now im just selling to my local LFS's, but looking to expand to shipping fish on ebay, amazon etc.

What did you breed on accident?

 

By owning livebearers, one of my platys actually spawned one fry today, but the platys came sick and I didn't QT them (still learning) before adding to the tank. So I dunno if they're gonna make it, but if they don't I hope they don't take my corys/pleco/shrimp with em

 

It shouldn't affect your other fish in the tank, lemme know how it does!

 

Infections will infect the whole community

 

OH! You said it came sick, I thought you had said because you spawned a fry, it was going to make the rest of the fish sick. My bad! Well, I hope you can figure it out and possibly add some medicine in the water to solve it before it spreads!

 

Ohh I meant the platys came sick, I'm not sure if the fry will survive or not. Gonna let nature run its course

 

It depends on what goals you are pursuing. If you want to get fish in the form of pets, then everything is simple, if for the purpose of earning, then fish need special conditions, you need to build a farm.
