So it seems that people are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to the unresponsiveness of the government to police brutality. This is going on in Dallas right now. They're killing police officers at protests. It's like a war zone.

Read more here: Multiple officers killed at protest over police killings - CNN.com

Do y'all think that this will really do anything to motivate Congress or any other governmental organization to crack down on police brutality? I understand there is already a thread on police brutality, but this is happening live right now and it's a game changer.

Social unrest to say the least. According to people at the rally the shooter(s) were shooting at everyone not just police officers... Until we get more information it's hard to say what actually happened or why it happened. For all we know it could be a couple of lunatics taking advantage of the rally to target a large amount of people.

Also, it won't change a thing. This happened last year where a person in Dallas shot at a police headquarters.

That's a good point as to the identity of the suspects. Have they released any information on that yet?

Also, do you think that just because they didn't respond to it the first time, the government won't respond to it a second even worse time? It could just be the straw that breaks the camels back, or it could just change nothing. It's sad how politics can do this sort of thing.

Fourth officer has died... Dallas is an open carry state, whoever the suspects are had assault rifles and enough ammunition to do this much damage.. The thing is, A random thug or idiot didn't do this. Sniping from an elevated position and only target police officers in the midst of a large rally takes skill. This is more like a terrorist attack.

Usually to have substantial change something needs to happen. It's sad that it takes murder for progress to be made. We'll see if anything comes of this though.

11 officers shot, 5 officers killed. A couple civilians were also hit. A women was hit in the back of her calf and she immediately threw herself and shielded one of her sons. What a horrific night. So senseless...

Looks like LEOs getting a taste of their own medicine. It only takes a few incidents like this for the people to remember they outnumber the police 300 to 1.

Could be revenge for the latest police brutality? The one where the girlfriend streamed the killing of her boyfriend? Who knows.

RIP to the victims and wishing a fast recovery for the injured ones.

Nothing he can say or do would change things for the better. We've reached a point where offering aggressive changes would only have negative implications that would further infuriate an already divided country.

Sometimes you wonder if in a situation like that, you would do the same for your children. There isn't a high chance that you'd get shot but there is still that likelihood of dying protecting your children. Just something random I thought about when I read your post.

So you do think that the more of these incidents that occur the more likely the need for a solution becomes apparent in the eyes of the politicians?

Yeah that's the first assumption, but the killers could have just used that as a facade for their mental urge to kill.

An already divided country is a great way to look at it. With Trump possibly becoming our next president, the division between this nation will be obscene.

I was 30 minutes away. My buddy got stuck downtown, scary shit. Traffic was all fucked up this morning on the way to work, they had whole sections of town blocked off searching for explosives.

Word got out that it was a black disgruntled vet fed up with the white on black violence who decided to take out his frustrations by killing whitey. Glad he's dead, blowing him up was too good for that sorry piece of shit. I hope it wasn't instantaneous..

I live in Houston and have family in Dallas near where the shooting took place. Last night was a very strange night as there were multiple police incidents in my own area, one of which involved a shooting as well.

I think this Dallas incident shows a very serious growing problem with racial issues/tensions though, especially in America right now.

It was confirmed that it was a ex-military black male who felt previous police brutalities against black individuals justified him killing innocent white cops, apparently.

Here's what I think this ridiculous and horrible event will cause:

White people that were already racist will use this as another incentive to hate/profile black people even more. Many black people will likely see this event as a necessary act of justice/retribution and believe it will help change things for them (it won't in the slightest). People that hate cops will likely take joy out of this shooting and say/think something along the lines of "those pigs deserved it".

In my opinion, this is another sad event in America that will increase tensions and more hate will circulate through our country. A large amount of people here clearly can't seem to look past race/color and the media provokes that line of thinking by making 90% of everything they show somehow about race. I'd say it's safe to say this won't be an isolated event and more situations like this will occur in the near future :(

This will fix nothing, black people complain about being treated "unequal" yet scream every day about racism and how they are "oppressed" with this and that, I'm sick of it.

There is only one race - the human race, racism only becomes a problem when you pay attention to it. Same as bullying, ignore it and it will go away.

You're thinking of species. Race is a subset term used to identify different groups of people in that same species.

Ignoring an issue will not fix anything, the issue will just continue to exist. How does that make sense?

This is why I absolutely hate the media. Media is to blame for the tension that causes an event like this to occur. Media puts out propaganda to make black people believe they are the only ones being victimized by police brutality. As of this post there have been 279 white people killed by police since the start of 2016 compared to 137 black people. So why do we not see these white killings on the media? I bet most people can name 7 black victims but not even 1 white victim (me included) because the media is swarmed with Black Lives Matter. Yeah obviously there are more white people in the US so more white people are going to die. Per million white and per million black, there are 1.41 deaths and 3.25 deaths respectively. At first that seems like a pretty big difference but keep in mind (statistics from 2013 but still probably somewhat relevant) black people had homicide as the 5th leading cause of death at 4.5%. White people didn’t even have homicide ranked (the last ranking was 1.9% for chronic liver disease which would mean homicide would be below 1.9% anyway). Obviously a cop is going to be more on guard knowing statistically black people are more violent. If black people want to stop police brutality against them they need to stop killing themselves first otherwise police will always be guarded knowing statistically there is a higher chance of them being violent. Shit like this where cops are killed because of tension created by the media definitely does not help their cause. Now police will be even more guarded and tense. Black people aren’t going to stop police brutality against them by protesting — they are going to stop it by not killing each other.

And more protests to further worsen the problem. People are stupid. Do they really not expect cops to be extremely on edge after shit like this? So hypocritical for people to think they can end violence with violence. Also hypocritical for them to think all cops are bad when the point they are trying to make is that not all black people are criminals.
