    First EVER Photoshop Attempt

Well, I went by a guide on zypur, and there was supposed to be the original render, but I couldn't figure that out, although I'm gonna keep trying...

    Here's what I got... text sucks :p.

    EDIT: Figured it out :p

Ok, for a first it's not so bad. There's a few too many colours in there than I like to see though. With the background colours less prominent, it would be easier to draw attention to the focal. I won't baffle you with information about C4Ds or lighting or any of that bullshit. I guess you could easily find some tutorials on those things. Keep it up.

EDIT: Forgot to mention... Two words: Gradient map. ;)

Yeah, I'm looking for tuts on how to change the lighting and such so I can darken it around the render, thanks though Verts :D!

Meh look alright for a first shot (mine was just a render on a green background... lol). I rather like the last one as it looks like you played around with the lighting. Other than that try some different blurs/effects, and try using different backgrounds other then the blurred render.

Try brushing with white, or other light colors, playing with different blending modes for that brushing and then brush in darker black hued colors, erase/blending mode that brushing and you will have a good start. From there just keep adding on using that as sort of a base and possibly smudging some of your lighting.

A handy smudge brush can be made by opening a new canvas, size 50x50 and using the type tool, make a big "X" in Arial with the bold setting on. Then go to Edit > Define Brush Preset and save it as whatever you want. I generally use that brush with a couple brush mod settings, no scattering, when I am smudging a light source.

If you got lost anywhere in there, point out where and I will try to help.

On the first, it looks strange how you duped the render and put it in the background, never use fancy text :D, your renders look kinda dodgy, try holding the shift key while resizing. And last but not least, your smudge strength is up a bit too high.

Too lighten it around the render, you could try taking a 20 or so soft brush and brush over it with white. For darkening, you could use the same strategy I just told you with black, or use the burn tool on low exposure.

Ok, I took to heart what you've all said... I've spent time practicing brushes and such, and trying out different things, different lighting techniques and everything...

    Here's what I produced:

For a first sig, not bad I've seen much worser ones, believe me!
Only you've created the background out of your render with an effect and did nothing else with it... Try to add some Bright/contrast-balance into it and it would look a lot better, also try to follow more tuts so you can even make better sigs!!

    For a first sig: 7/10:D

    Greetz,
    Zeboss;)
