Happy Programming

My friend wants me to change my major with him to computer engineering, because he wants to be a programmer. I did tell him that I would look into it, but I'm not sure how interested I am in programming. I have a general understanding of programming, but my question is:

If any of you have a career as a programmer, what do you do, and do you enjoy your job?

Also, if any of you just program for fun, what do you find fun about it?

 

Be warned, by the definition of computer engineering you have a background in electronic engineering. This means that only a portion of your course will be dedicated towards programming and the vast majority of it towards electronics.

If you're looking at doing straight programming do computer science; this deals with every day programming.

Computer engineering deals with a lower level, i.e. if you have a radar built by an electronic engineer, you would for instance design the software to properly moderate and interpret the radar signals for the user from the hardware.

Having a degree in computer engineering also means you have the professional status of being an engineer which attaches a formal standard of quality that you have to produce. It's a very good degree to have and puts you in a good position to later progress into managerial positions of a company.

Lastly, to address your overall question: there really is a surplus of programmers, you need to be above the rest to make a decent career out of it. However, being a computer engineer you have unique skills that most other programmers won't have and this will help you extend yourself into further fields.

Well lets see. I own my own web-firm, which is doing great (and was awesome through this past recession); however, the only programming that my firm does is for strictly the web and/or for internet capable devices.

To be honest, just computer programming is a waste of your time and money. If you guys didn't think ahead your far far behind. The computer (lets say a PC) is at the point to which it should be commercially quantized (i.e. Qubit Processing).

'And its not!?..

Reason:

The computer as we know it is becoming a distant memory-- it will simply turn into a basic, low impact, display/response terminal. As in, a computer which uses an operating system is now currently outdated, because there are operating systems which work on the internet.

So I wonder, which will come first--the quantum internet, or the quantum computer?

well, seeing as that the internet is an intangible network of computers, I suppose if the quantum computer was first, it would soon be last. As the internet provides for limitless expansion--something a physical object can't.

So programming either way is COMPLETELY BADASS SHIT. But if you're really wanting to make a living from it....
