    Few Computer Science Related Questions

    Hey guys.

I'll be heading to University this Fall and would like to go in with an idea of what I would like to study. A bit of guidance would be appreciated though. Thanks a lot

    1) I would like to double major in a field in business and computer science. Would you say this is a wise decision and if so what field in business would compliment the computer science best?

    2) I have very limited experience with computer science. People have been coding since they were eight years old, so how much of a disadvantage am I at?

    3) What class would I take if I am interested in developing Applications for smart phones.

    Thanks a ton!

Like most questions related to education there is no "best" answer, it really depends on what you want to do and where you want to end up. Here is the best short answer I can give you.
A secondary education in an area like Accounting or Commerce would make you more favourable for computer and programming related jobs in the financial industry because they often give preference to those with some additional knowledge of the field.

They are at an advantage but if you are willing to take the time to learn (more than them to start) and you really are interested in doing so you will be fine. Best advice I can give is start as early as you can (now if possible).
A class in mobile device programming would be ideal but these are very rare in most universities so I would say don't worry about this so much. In reality it is not important to know the particulars of every different language and device, it is much more useful to know the general concepts that can be applied and transferred everywhere. For example once you learn the Java programming language you can already program for Android since that's what it uses with slight differences you can overcome. There are tons of resources and tutorials online for mobile programming so you can pursue this yourself once you have the basic computer science concepts down.
