The Acacia Strain is far from sludge. For sludge listen to Eyehategod, TAS falls under the Deathcore umbrella with Whitechapel. Death Metal is bands similar to At The Gates. Math/Prog Metal is like Dillinger Escape Plan or The Number 12 Looks Like You. Lamb of Gad isn't even close to satanic metal, they're more thrash and groove. Slayer is thrash till the end.

Sorry , I can an elitist dick about music.

Check out black metal, and I'm not talking "black metal"... I'm talking Burzum , Emperor and Dark Throne.

Like Nero I wouldn't call slayer "classic metal" I'd reserve that to bands like Sabbath or Saxon. Slayer is classic thrash however. I'm not a big fan of most new "death metal" but the classics like Death, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse and Nile (is Nile classic yet?) still get a lot of play. Gwar and Ghoul are the ultimate tongue and cheek/parody metal bands for me. If you like 80s-90s groove shit check out Sepultura; think Brazilian pantera . I'd have a hard time pegging them but Necrophagist is BADASS. Super technical but not to the point of noisy mathcore garbage. I'm not really into melodic death but if you like it I'd suggest Black Dahlia Murder. For doom/sludgey stoner type shit I'd check out Boris, Lazurus Blackstar, Bongzilla maybe sourvein.

Thanks, man. I'll be sure to have a look into some of these. I've heard of a few you've mentoined up there. I'm a big fan of Sepultura and I've heard of the Black Dahlia.

I stumbled across a few bands that took my fancy recently; Upon a Burning Body & Thy Art Is Murder - Not really sure how to classify them, maybe deathcore?
