I think botters in F2P bought them in Port Sarim and made them crash. There were very easy to obtain, and yielded very easy cash.

 

Personalized shops made them quick and easy to obtain (you can buy boxes).

same as vials -> gf prices.

Don't listen to the guys above.

 

Yea, JaGeX updated them so you can buy them in boxes of I think 5000 or so. Same with shards and vials and all the stuff you need in high amounts.
