Skype hackings

I've recently made a Skype solely for sythe use. Now I'm curious how are Skypes being hacked should I worry about the safety of my email linked with my Skype or is it only your Skype that gets compromised? These are just some curiosities I have. Also any tips/tricks I should know?

 

I think its something to do with the Skype lost password recovery system. There's an exploit somewhere I think. However I have also heard that people who have purchased Skype credit in the past or are on Skype premium or something can't get hacked for whatever reasons.

I'm not a expert but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Skypes UPNP feature and UDP through call, that is why sometimes someone asks you to answer their call even when its not necessary, cuz they just want to get your UDP port.

Also one can easily get someones IP too, once you have them on your list, once they got your IP who knows what the hell theyre doing on your network, could be sniffing around, once you logon to unsecured websites then they can sniff your login details through post method from a site, or cookies, shit who knows

Also the other one is hijacking your skype just by knowing which email address you used when signing up or something correct me if I'm wrong atleast thats what I knew.

 

Obtaining IP is not a problem, you dont need to even have someone added for that. Reason of skype hackings is recovering accounts, more info people know about you, most likely your skype will get compromised. That's why you keep as much as possible info private

 

I see, but still its one of the causes.

 

All they're doing, is sweet talking the live chat agents with very minimal information, 3 Skype contacts, email address, creation date, name and DOB. The agents just fall for it and switch the emails allowing for a full recovery process. Buying Skype credits does not secure your Skype in any way, whatsoever.

 

Basically, the Skype livechat team are jackasses and give accounts away with next to no information. They only require basic details which are easily doxed online such as country of creation, an email address and a couple of your skype contacts (most of these are easily found on Sythe) although there have been cases they haven't even required an email address, which is absurd.

Although, there have been progressively less hackings so hopefully they're trying to do a bit better.

 

Keep in mind that Snow Patrol added credit to his Skype account, and still managed to get hacked numerous times.

I find it stupid how so many people are getting hacked, I've not once been hacked using msn/skype/runescape etc because you have to have common sense.
DON'T use your real DOB as people will know it
DON'T use an email anybody knows, you can hide this information.

Pretty obvious one is don't use a password that people would guess like "chloecat1"

Because I do know of a service going around calling people and being able to get to them somehow *not sure exactly how* but I doubt they're after Runescape items.

Common sense stuff really, people who get hacked are just morons in my eyes, been on the internet for easily over 5 years and never once been hacked on anything.

 

They are technically not "hacking" accounts, they are just abusing the recovery system with live chat agents.

But if you're dumb enough to use your real DOB or an email people know of then you're clearly asking to be hacked.

 

It makes no difference at all. I've already been hacked 2 times myself, and all of my details were random/private. This was on 2 different Skype accounts, with the 2nd Skype being purely made with random details.

 

I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe the people at skype just handed your account to somebody with no prior knowledge of the details on the account.

 

You would be surprised. They specifically target the accounts of "trusted" users for obvious reasons. Majority have been hacked at least once by now, whilst others multiple times.

 

You cannont get hack for nothing, you have to download something or upload it to your comp to get eather keylogged or ratted.
-Also to prevent scamming just ask for a pm by the user of sythe.

Make your account with information you only know. Purchase skype credit and don't allow people to see the amount of contacts you have. Just some tips!

 

turning in to more of an argument now, keeping your account secure and what not is a start - but there have been users hacked who've been secure. skype's recovery system is really flawed, and they are handing accounts out to anyone on occasion. as long as the sythe isn't at all affiliated with the scam, then you wont be held accountable - just make sure you let us know if it is hacked. however, for now it's only the big sellers who've been targeted.
