[ACCEPTED] False advertisements

This matter has come to my attention lately as this is getting abused pretty hard.

My suggestion: Only allow traders to list prices for their service/products in their thread title if they are completely accurate. (Price ranges in the thread itself should still be allowed)

Many traders nowadays are abusing this system by listing false prices in their respective thread titles.

For example:
Selling bulk RS3 gold $0.11+/m. In this case they are advertising to sell rs3 gold for 0.11$/m or higher. In most cases, actual prices are nowhere near the advertised rates of $0.11/m. This gives them an unfair advantage to gain many contact requests by potential customers. These customers then will get quotes that don't match their expectations, and some will be like "oh whatever, I'll still buy". This gives an unfair advantage compared to the honest sellers that are advertising actual rates in their titles. The customers that don't end up buying, had their time wasted because they were expecting a lower rate.

$0.11/m is completely clickbait, because even if I were to purchase his entire stock, I still wouldn't get that price.

Buying bulk 07 gold ~$0.77/m. Also a commonly used tactic to gain an unfair advantage. In most cases their actual buying rates will be significantly lower than the advertised rate, but they justify it by using the "~" sign. A sneaky method which helps generating extra traffic. Again, unfair to competitors that are using accurate rates, and it could result in time being wasted for the potential sellers/buyers.

If nothing is done about this, only more people will be doing it and then it'll keep getting worse and worse.

you can report these 'clickbate' gold prices in the market for false advertisement if they decide they don't want to update their prices.
If they are a repeat offender, thread locks are a thing which essentially gives you the benefit of the doubt in the long run.

That being said, I would agree with this as it is technically already enforced. Although if you want to make it an official rule, I would suggest a tolerance of +/- 1 cent as gold prices do fluctuate throughout the day.

 

I don't think goldsellers are allowed to report other goldsellers for this, but I may be wrong

 

Suggestion after suggestion is egging the staff in adding more and more rules into place that force them to be on the lookout for various things. No support and as stated before, I've said:

 

Obivously everyone wants to clickbait, marketing in it's core is clickbaiting but i support, you can use other fair practices to draw customers, or write a range

 

Support from me, I do sort of feel the same should happen in other markets too.

- Threads need to be within .02 cents RS3 and .05 cents OSRS. Pretty easy rule to implement I think?

Prices should be updated accordingly to ranges stated in the thread and the beginning rates for example 1m/.73 should always be highlighted as the initial buying price or something along the lines of
Selling gold starting at 1m/.73! 10m/.75 100m/1.03

Support from me. It's not that hard to update your thread on a regular basis or at least not to keep way off prices.

 

support this Searchy, it's the same issue with clickbait thread titles: misinterpretation by buyers and manipulation by sellers.

 

or a percentage i think 5ish percent is ok, because if its cent and gp rises or crashes a lot it can be misleading. rs3 price flunctuates by 10% easilly aswell, osrs a bit less, 5ish i guess, so supply can determine a 5% rise or crash from the amount(80cent offer, out of stock 85cent buy price, full of stock 75cent price)

 

Agreed. I was thinking a % as well, but RS3 is so low I didnt want it to look too high. Maybe 20% RS3 and 5% osrs? (comes out to be about 3 cents and 4 cents)

 

Agreed. Most advertise a dumb price that isn't real once you contact them. Or there are fees or some BS.

Seeing .70/M for some OSRS then you contact them and they say its like .75-.80.

I disagree. If we allow any kind of fluctuation it will only get abused. It only takes about 10 seconds to update prices in your thread title. If you're unable or too lazy to do that, then simply don't list prices in your thread title.

 

Price ranges should be OK, in the title. Example: Selling OSRS Gold $0.75-$0.80/M.
In this case, there should not be gold sold for 0.74 or for 0.81
Price ranges should not be OK if it's not in the title. Example: Selling OSRS gold ~$0.75/M
In this case, you go in the thread, 1-10m is 0.85, 10-100m is 0.82, etc. Should not be allowed.

All thread title prices should match the prices in the thread.
If they fluctuate, a fluctuating price should be advertised with Selling in between X amount and X amount.

 

I agree, it is extremely annoying to contact a seller and the price is drastically different, waste of time.

 

Agreed, but a range would be good to be allowed, as long as its explicitly stated and adherred to.

Eg. Bulk purchases over 500m get x.x$/m, no more no less. No surprises when someone expecting to buy 400m doesn't get a bulk rate because the seller decided to be a shady mofo and not say it at all.

Restricting sellers/buyers to a single price for gp isn't very conducive. Support for this idea overall!
