I think OP's suggestion would be a good add-on to an already established SyScape server. Meaning, if Sythe decides to open an RSPS then an event could be a DMM themed 4 day tourney incorporating OP's suggestions and the winner gets XXX prize on the live game.

 

I thought you understood that the dmm rsps is completely impractical, that's why we moved to the rsps discussion. Would a custom sythe dmm server bring people in and work? Probably.

Would it immediately get jagex'd? Yes.

 

The server needs to be up 100% of the time or it wont have a playerbase, nothing kills a server faster than downtime.


Rsps are a major money pit or a major homerun, u either make it big or you go broke, there is very few in-betweens, the industry is gradually consolidated into 10-15 massive servers and the others die off, I don't think theres any incentive in a DMM/SDMM server because 1. DMM/SDMM is cold atm not hot, & lets think about this.


You want to build a RSPS, u want to appeal to the most general amount of players by doing so, instead u build a DMM server and ONLY TARGET PKERS & DMM PLAYERS which is probably 20% of the playerbase or less, so now instead of building a general osrs server with pvm, skilling & pking and getting 9/10 visits through ur ads, ur now getting 2/10 because only pkers would click the ad/login/stay, this is a very bad in terms of building a RSPS.

I could go way way farther into detail but I think u get it.

 

Yeah I have played around with it. If we have people that want to test for glitches and help me with it I have no problem spending time on it. I am not a fan of glitches at all so I will take the time to fix them but it's nothing something I want to do by myself.

 

Hey can I just stop people from panicing about Jagex okay? I've actually worked for multiple servers that were shutdown by Jagex.

No a Sdmm/DMM server would not be shutdown by Jagex instantly, theres been 500 deadman remakes already.

Jagex ONLY targets the top 5 servers typically, and normally those with 1,000+ players.

I just want to clarify this so this set in stone, UNLESS THE SYTHE RSPS ACHIEVES 1,000+ PLAYERS THERE IS NO RISK FROM JAGEX.

IF THE SYTHE RSPS HITS 1,000+ PLAYERS SYTHE HAS PROBALY MADE OVER HALF A MILLION DOLLARS AT THAT POINT, IN WHICH CASE HE CAN PROBALY JUST PASS IT OFF TO SOMEONE ELSE OR SHUT IT DOWN, THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY RISK TO SYTHE SO PLEASE DONT USE THIS AS AN EXCUSE, IM STATING FACT HERE I'VE LIVED IT.

 

I hear ya. I guess I just assumed that most of the community would be down to play. As for it being up all the time, the DMM servers would only be up when a competition is going, not all the time. We'd announce those competitions here and thus people would join the community here

 

People aren't going to want to play a RSPS when the actual DMM or SDMM is going on, who would want to play a rsps that could be shutdown tomorrow that's a remake when u could play the real thing? Nobody.

Also a temporary RSPS that goes up and down? Nobody would EVER donate or buy a status or anything, would be a money pit.


I like new concepts, but a temporary rsps with like 1% uptime, that is ran by a blackmarket forum that targets 20% of the RS/RSPS playerbase does not seem like a good business plan or game plan.

 

I feel like every suggestion is faced with so much adversity that we will never try anything, but fair enough - if the masses don't like the idea then it probably wouldn't go over well. I know that I would definitely play a week long DMM every month or so if it meant a potential 500$ for only 4hours/day. Especially when I'm competing against my fellow community members

$100 dedi
$10 webhosting
$150 IPB license
$250-$500 in ads

$760-$1,200 in expenses to host a temporary tourney? I don't think it'd make any money lolz.

 

I don't think that's completely accurate. A lot of people who choose an RSPS is for the sole reason that they can level up faster and start pvping without worrying about losing tons of time and gold spent on the items. Meaning people would play any type of RSPS as long as it meets the standards of what they're looking for in a RSPS

 

5$ buy in. Sythe maybe keeps 10-20% winner takes the rest. That's the idea. On top of that, has ads on the private server, brings more traffic to sythe making the ads here worth more. More members to sythe means more donations

You're right though, wouldn't make sense if you're losing money - but the idea is that Sythe at least breaks even and gets more activity/members in the process

-Non Duped Economy/Healthy Economy
-Other People Playing
-Active Updates
-Active Staff
-Advertisements to help growth


These are the most basic, standard guidelines I can possibly give, let me clarify these are basic in the extreme.

 

Don't you think that having a RSPS, even if it isn't one of the top 5, being endorsed by Sythe would be enough to make Jagex go out of their way to shut it down / see what they can do to stop what we are doing here?

I just worry if it's worth the time and manpower it would take to develop something like this that surely would get closed down if it became successful.

I'll second this, I haven't ventured into RSPS's personally but damn have I played on stupid fucking WoW PS's solely because I could fly, they had puzzles / mazes set up, instant max level etc.

 

What are you going to do, make sythe hand code a system that blocks everyone from joining but specific users on a "whitelist"?

$1,000 in expenses would require approx. 200 buyins, and sythe only gets 20% of that? that means 1,000 people have to buyin for him to break even.

This is a very very bad business model to make money lol.


I'm really trying to give u valid answers/reasoning vs just not supporting, but this is a really terrible idea I'm sorry to say in reality, I get it sounds good on paper but this isn't going to work, I've built a lot of RSPS from scratch and I can safely say this would go nowhere.

I'm not all knowing but I know more than anyone on this forum about RSPS I'm confident to say- RSPS is my thing, I literally grew up on them and make my living off them.


@FlyingToast No I don't think sythe sponsoring a RSPS would do jack shit to Jagex honestly man, sorry to be blunt but these Jagex concerns have no basis in RSPS history, Giant forums and stuff sponsor RSPS all the time(Moparscape had its own RSPS and had an INSANE amount of forum users/people, no issues).

 

Wouldn't the expenses just be one time though (other than hosting)? So yea, it'd take 1000 people to buy in for him to break even...but over the course of how long? It'd maybe only take 10 competitions to break even and in that time he's also generating user growth.

Also, keep in mind this isn't just about money. There are other things like user growth and activity that are worth it as well.

A country can't just be measured on it's GDP. Life expectancy, education, etc are all other things to keep in mind. The same can be argued here

 

Dedi's are charged monthly, if u run 1 competition a month, that's $100 a month.

IPB license is like $40/month to rent or $150/year

Ads are monthly, again will need new ads every competition.

Gfx will be needed

Tourney money($500 like u said)? needed every month if the comps are monthly.

Even if their every 3 or 6 months, it still wont make money.


Ikov made approx. $600,000 USD(give or take) off around 2,000 players in its semi brief run, what your suggesting is opening a RSPS and somehow finding 1,000 people to signup then only making a few grand off them(Started @ 100, grew to 500, then 1,000, peaked 2,000 so I just used 2,000 as it capped there).

trying to give u some perspective of the model ur proposing and how bad this is.

 

Sythe RSPS would be amazing.

i personally want to play RSPS' but i don't due to all the drama surrounding them.

& if we did have a Sythe RSPS i would want it to just be normal not any nonsense like dmm please lol

License: 50$ + 50$ of gfx (I'm sure somebody would do it for free) + 100$ of dedis

that's only like 200$, even if its like 300$ that's not a bad price to pay for potential success.

If it doesn't work out and 300$ is lost, well then at least we tried

 

I understand blades frustration atm , there is so much work and knowledge here that its impossible to communicate through posts.

I wont post again, I don't like the DMM/SDMM idea and I'm sorry that I don't but I don't think it'll work, I cant explain in a post because it'd just be wasting time on something I don't think would ever happen anyway.

a 07 rsps/317 is a diff gameball tho.

But hey, if people support it by all means I'm sure sythe can do it.

 

Pretty sure Sythe made a RSPS back in 2013? What ever happened to that one?
