An online chat instead of MSN which is more prone to scamming

Maybe it could just be something along the lines of right clicking on a member thats online and say like "chat"

even if its just done with private messaging.

if you private message someone in "chat mode" the private message should pop up right away on the other persons screen so its not really an online chat just a modified message system.

and if you are in this online chat mode you can have the messages that are going back and forth to be saved in its own chat folder"

This would get rid of people hacking other msn addresses, people making up msn addresses close to the other persons name and scamming. Atleast if an unfortunate scam would take place you would know it was the person selling/buying the goods.

conversations could also be saved to the persons account and be used in reporting scammers without having to take screenshots, etc...

I am not a programmer of any sorts so I do not know how troublesome this is to accomplish.

What are your thoughts?


edit: I do not mean a shoutbox by the way, but limit it to allow you to talk to one person at a time or something

 

Isnt msn enough? Only very few people get their msn hacked. And taking screenshots is pretty easy.

 

MSN does not cause the downy to get scammed. The downy on MSN allows him/herself to get scammed.

 

This is a great idea! No more fake people and the messaging box could not let you use two of the same IP's which could possibly stop scammers from coming back etc.

won't necessarily minimize but it will result in more people being caught. If you think msn is good enough then fine, this would only be optional.

Which can be provided when you are scammed.. I think the idea is great!

 

what I want to add as well is a lot of people that are trading on this site are leachers, members and active members (me)

not all of us (especially for the ones who just joined) are not familiar with the rules regarding reporting scammers.

Scammers hunt out people new to this site because they also know that some of us do not know how to correctly report a scammer which is our fault of course but can be greatly reduced with a modified private messaging/chat.

 

This is very true. On my old sythe account from 2007 (name is A11muscle dont use because name failed) I was scammed in pretty much every trade.. I never knew how to report anyone.. So those people continued scamming.

 

Yes I was scammed who presently is now a mod... I can't back it up therefore cannot give a name.

this would have been something effective in the ban of that member...

 

Just don't do trades on Sythe, it's hard to trust anyone here. Problem solved.

 

not problem solved sythe is here to do trades on.. i mean the blackmarket here is huge.

 

Obviously no site is perfect.

This will add some restrictive measures that scammers might think twice about scamming.

 

Do you guys understand the scale of what you're asking? Developing a private MSN like chat service somehow entwined into vBulletin (Version 3.6.4).

I don't think it's possible or worth all the time/effort.

 

not a private msn anymore. Just an add on to the private message system where if you were online instead of having to go to your inbox to check the mail it would pop up automatically where you can see the previous messages you sent to the person but it is still technically a "message"

it would look like an msn type of thing but its much simpler i think

 

Nonetheless I'll always use MSN. This suggested system would never be able to do all of the extra features MSN provides. If you're smart about it, you'll never get hacked via MSN. I'm very confident it will never happen to me.

 

Sure once you figure out how the game works then msn will work but as a leecher you are doomed...

 

Well put. If you're careful with MSN it's nearly fool proof. Always ask for PM's, cross check the MSN's, etc. You should be safe then.
