Yeah they've really simplified everything. You still have to purchase the game, then each expansion until Cataclysm, but you can download the whole game with one file which is fairly convenient. I read this post last night but since it was on my phone I didn't write a response since you had many questions written. If you still need some answered feel free to PM me or post them here and I'll try to help out.

 

i'd just like to add, there is an offer out atm that allows you to go all the way to cata, and get a free 85 [you log in, open something in your mail and you super ding] i know there are certain circumstances you must be under and i'm not sure whether or not you'd fit them, but do take a read as they're really trying to build the fan base up for the next expansion, and also pull back the oldies
