What is the allusion in the passage?

The Expedition

A crowd of well wishers greeted Ann
Bancroft when she returned home from her
historic expedition across Antarctica. Bancroft
and Liv Arneson are the first women to traverse
the ice-covered continent.
It took the two women three months to travel
2,400 miles (3,840 km); the journey across
Antarctica began on November 14th, 2000, and
ended on February 19th, 2001. They reached
McMurdo Station, a U.S. military base, just in
time to board a ship that would take them home.
Some people call Bancroft a modern day
Amelia Earhart. In 1986, she joined the Steger
North Pole Expedition and became the first
woman to reach the North Pole over land. In
1993 she led a team of women on a 67-day
expedition to the South Pole.
Bancroft said that her journey was inspired
by the tale of Sir Ernst Shackleton, the explorer
who survived two years in Antarctica after his
ship sank. Before returning home, Bancroft and
Arneson visited the Shackleton huts.

Could be the jews wandering in the desert for 40 years. Might not be though. If this is for an assignment, its almost certainly biblical.

That women have the ability to acheive?

Two things wrong with that statement...

1) It's false.
2) Allusion is a reference to a well-known event.

@OP - I'm not quite sure actually. Perhaps Lewis and Clark's expedition?
