This is just a post to educate people on what emo really is.

First of all, emo is not short for emotional and it's not a style. A lot of kids mislabel themselves as emo and shop at hot topic and cut themselves for attention.

However the truth is emo is short for emotive hardcore and it's a genre of music spawned in the late 1980's by a band called Rites of Spring. This band created an offshoot of hardcore punk and then later influenced bands like
Embrace, Moss Icon, I Hate Myself, Fugazi, etc

this still is the true meaning today, however there are too many people mislabeling and misjudging because of pop-culture and media.
I just thought I'd post this because I know a good number of sythe.org users are in there teenage years and this is good knowledge to have to keep yourself from spreading the stupid trend that has been set.

Here is some actual emo or emotive hardcore to give you a good idea

Ah, thank you for posting this. Can't tell you how glad I am to see somene who truly understands the genre.

If you count them as emo, Sunny Day Real Estate are another amazing band, granted they didn't come along until the 90's.

(I know, this is probably one of their most popular songs but, it's still great nonetheless)

Moved to music, cause it really does belong here.

OT: a lot of "emo" kids listen to that music, and shitty "emo" bands influenced by that music.

TBH, even after this thread, I'll continue called them "emotional." I honestly don't know how people are even attracted to this type of shit anyways, I find it stupid in my opinion even though I know some people disagree with me.

It's just become common culture to refer to "emo" as an abbreviation of "emotional", sort of like a colloquial. Either way, it's phased out now.

Culture groups are changing all the time. People change with the flow of time, and the emo genre is just a victim of retards and non-emo influential people working together.
