I agree that the drug is not all that deadly but I don't feel it should be legalised, I don't wan't a bunch of pot heads working..

Well, I live in California, and despite the fact that last year about 49% of our state voted to legalize marijuana for recreational use, the fed is busting collectives in low crime areas, as well as high crime areas. This shows clear desperation on the side of the federal government. Scapegoat the country's problems on the stoners.

Well last night I smoked some and thought of what it was that creates information, like the material of what information is that is carried from the computer to the screen via wires.
    Weed makes you think.

    Effects of Marijuana

Stopped abusing marijuana when i was seventeen and couldn't handle my increasingly low self-esteem, presumably from being so dependent on weed that i became socially inept. By the end my highs were just a barrage of paranoia, drowsiness, overwhelming desires for junk food, and hard, long crashes before sobriety again. NOT WORTH IT.

Key parts bolded: For carbon monoxide to form, there must not be enough oxygen. That means, the ratio for oxygen and carbon must be under 2:1. Otherwise the combustion will simply produce carbon dioxide.

Because there is so much oxygen around, smoking marijuana will not produce anything but trace amounts of carbon monoxide. If you smoke it in a completely airproof room, you are more likely to suffocate due the carbon dioxide produced by your normal respiratory activity. If you want to prove that marijuana is unhealthy, this isn't the way to do it.
I suppose you could put your head in a plastic bag and smoke a joint inside it, perhaps then there wouldn't be enough oxygen but that is STUPID

No, there's a triple bond and a sp-hybridization. I don't understand where you got the constant hybridization and de-hybridization from. It is toxic not because it's unstable and kills brain cells, but because it combines easily with hemoglobin and forms something that doesn't deliver oxygen.
did you not do your homework

    Effects of Marijuana

^ Thanks for being the only intelligible person here.
I have a couple of questions though.
Doesn't a joint and a cigarette let off similar amounts of carbon monoxide? I thought that CO was one of the reasons why cigarettes kills brain cells.

and also, does it mean that CO indirectly kills our brain cells by restricting oxygen flow?
    thanks!

Happy that somebody answered a question that you couldn't give an answer to?

Probably, considering in both cases you're burning plant matter and paper. I don't know the exact amounts of carbon in both plants, but I'd assume they're similar. You're the first person I've heard saying that cigarettes kill brain cells. Where did you get that from? I suppose the various chemicals can and most likely do have adverse effects on the brain, but carbon monoxide is not the largest of issues.

Well, yes and no. Carbon monoxide forms a complex called carboxyhemoglobin[/url (COHb) with the red blood cells, and this COHb doesn't bind oxygen very much at all. Thus, a high enough dose will cause oxygen starvation and as a result could cause headache, or even brain damage or death at the worst case. However, as I said before, the carbon monoxide levels will be very small because there's ample oxygen around, and even with continuous smoking will not be hazardous. Blood cells are replaced relatively quickly, and the half-life of COHb is fairly short, so it doesn't take long for it to disappear from the system.

The effects of carbon monoxide from smoking could be compared to altitude sickness: both result in a lowered amount of oxygen in blood, but for slightly different reasons. It is, undoubtedly, possible to reach hazardous levels of COHb in blood, but that would require smoking huge amounts of cigarettes in a short time. which is pretty stupid So would altitude sickness be deadly, if one were to suddenly ascend a high mountain.

In conclusion: carbon monoxide from smoking causes a small increase of carboxyhemoglobin in blood, which could result in dizziness, headaches and a lower stamina, but nothing too serious. There shouldn't be any long-term effects after stopping smoking (from carbon monoxide that is - other chemicals and tar are a different matter)

To clarify the schizophrenia. From talking to my cousin who is an ER surgeon, she said studies have found that smoking weed can ACTIVATE the schizophrenia sooner than normal. So you would already have to posses the gene.

    Effects of Marijuana

I'm not going to google lots of effects on marijuana,
but my personal experiences have lead me to believe that it does slow/impair judgement/reactions and such.
When i was under the influence of it, I was much more likely to do dumb things and didn't really care about anything.

    Still, i like it :)
