Need Website Design Ideas

So, I'm working on this site, and I just can't break-through on how it should look. I've changed it all multiple times, and I feel I'm getting close, but it just isn't working right...

So I need feedback, brainstormed ideas, etc. I'm liking the header, but the content area... just not sure how to go about it. Help is appreciated .

Are the buttons supposed to be linking anywhere yet?

IMO the button colours clash with the purple background (which is too large and blocky anyway) badly, especially because of the wave effect across them which isn't continued into the background.

If I were you I'd put all four buttons in a square in the middle of the page, put the words "payje is a new unique way to win!" above it, change the PAYJE sign by just making it a purple outline of the letters and put it in the top left hand corner.

 

Looks a bit plain, and html is kinda old. I would say use another language with your own custom made theme. Use something like php nuke.

I'll try what you're talking about, I can't picture it in my head so I can't say if that's a good idea .

HTML isn't kind of old? . Not to mention, I'm not using HTML, I'm using (X)HTML Strict, and CSS 2.1, which is still standard amongst 80%+ of the web.

PHP-Nuke uses HTMl in its themes.

I'm developing the site IN PHP, but this thread is just for design ideas and such which is what I'm trying to work through.

 

I think it needs texture, maybe carbon fiber? The buttons look very... I don't know, childish? How they're big, square, and colored with basic primary/secondary colors

I'd get rid of the button colors, put indented dividers (like you have on the gray part) between them, and make them glow a color when you hover over them. Like they're backlit with an LED or something

Also, what's your focus? I'd do something with the "J" in your logo, it'd be aesthetically pleasing, and would resolve the issue of the bad letter spacing between the "y" and "j" in payje. It just looks unnatural to me :x

 

This. Definately looks a lot.... Sleeker? Not sure how to describe it. It just feels right. I'd also like to see what it would look like with a bit of a darker purple in the top of the gradient.
