    The Proposal

Add a Moderator/Editor's rating for threads to give an accurate description of the true quality of a thread's content.

    Reasons

I'm seeing a lot of excellent threads, guides specifically, that are rated poorly but contain excellent content. This had led me to believe that a lot of users are spiteful or jealous, or perhaps just annoying and are giving four or five star threads one star. Editor's ratings are common to many sites and generally give a more accurate description of quality. I'm hoping the same would be true here.

    Work Involved

Obviously coding the site for a second rating system would be pretty difficult. Moderators would rate threads they read, so perhaps that could be considered "work".

    Benefits

    • Users are given a quick reference of the therads quality as rated by Sythe staff.
    • It might help organizations as low rated threads might be unread and uncommented, and thus move down the list.

Personally I think this is a good suggestion, because generally the true value of anything is in the details. All the small details, such as this one, stack, making the site better as each add up. I think this small change would benefit the site and I hope people think it is a decent addition.

I don't really think many people use the rating system anyway, I know I don't.

You know, you're absolutely right. But even if one or two mods were to rate a thread with the rating, this system would work. I think you guys would get used to it if it became a regular part of "mod life". However, that is a pretty valid point.

I'm not sure...I think it would be a good idea for a small amount of work.

Yes, BUT; there rating is based specifically by opinion, not fact, so the thread maker would be left in doubt by a mod's decision.

It wouldn't replace the normal rating; there would be two ratings. And while some people have the integrity to rate every thread properly, a lot of people rate great stuff really low in spite.

If a moderator finds thread will be useful in the section that it is posted, they will sticky it.

Its not about find threads useful; if a mod stickied every helpful thread then there would be pages of threads. This is just, in essence, an editor's rating. You see them on basically every site, and it would honestly be beneficial, if only a little, to see them here.

Good idea. My thread is amazing (at least I think so) and I currently have a two star rating.

    I support.
