home schooling - better? worse? socialy disruptive?

hey i was just wondering all of your views on homeschooling, i personally have been home schooled almost all my life and according to my Iowa test of basic skills im in the top 3% of my state, so do you think its worse then public or private school? do you think they will have trouble in the real world?

If your home schooled and actually do your work you'll probably be smarter than most people in regular schools because there are way less distractions and you get 1 on 1 teaching instead of the teacher teaching a whole class. Although home schooling could cause you to be socially inept. You tell me if thats better or worse its all about the person's opinion. More friends or more intellect?

a comon misconception is that home schoolers are socially inept, the truth it that some kids ARE HOME SCHOOLED BECAUSE THEY ARE SOCIALLY INEPT, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND and beleive it or not i have lots of friends from my neighbor hood and other home schoolers

SOME kids are home schooled because they are socially inept, but you have to admit you don't get to experience everything kids do when they are in a regular school. You may not be this way but, it could probably be proven that kids are more often becoming this way when home schooled rather than publicly schooled.

For a full psychological development in a modern world, you should attend a school.

    It's too isolated in homeschool.

One problem I might see with homeschool is that you get taught what your teachers WANT to teach you. This might exclude evolution and such.

sure homeschooling may give you 1 on 1 schooling but you miss out on a lot of benefits of schooling. like sports, social networks, resources, specialised teachers for each subject . but both have there pros and cons. i would say normal schooling is better but that might only be because ive never been home schooled.

thats a comon missconception, we have a homeschool soccer team, football team and tennis team and we are wite good. our soccer team (wich im on :D were almost undeated last year and we play other middle schools, but your right some homeschooling moms are unfit to teach there children, but most off them let other moms teach the subjects that they know. AS for my mom she taught in the public school system for 20 years and couldn't stand to see her kids turn out like that

I feel it's a very bad thing indeed.

It's socially depriving, I can't understand why any parent would do it to their child.

I think home schooling can be good and in most cases better.

Many public school systems fail, because the parents aren't active in there child's education, they don't know when assignments are due and don't show concern.

Private school are no better then public schools in my eyes. The reason private schools do better then public schools is the single fact that the parents are paying for the child's education. When you pay for something, the value rises and the parent is once again into their child's education, since they don't want to waste the money.

Home schooling makes me actually think that a parent wants to be sure that there child is learning everything needed.

Not really... I might not be in school, but I would never sit at home all alone, I used school as a place to meet new people, but not the only way to find new friends.

what does online grammar have to do with anything? I can use proper grammar if i would like but it's a waste of time when you're on the internet discussing things.

Im homeschooled too and I have a basketball team that im on, they have football, soccer, anything that enough people have an interest in theres a team, we play against private schools and other homeschool groups, in reality there are a LOT of homeschoolers, I go to a class day where they give you teachers for subjects and give you homework for the week... I am very social, have a lot of friends... prolly not as many as i would if I went to public school but I prefer having a smaller, closer knit, social circle...

I think that Homeschooling makes ur education better...
because a friend of mine is same age as me...
    and she's learning Calculus O_O

but one problem might be Public speaking...
or socializing with Real Life people...

Proper grammar is a requirement of the Something For All forum. At least an attempt for proper grammar, spelling mistake can be tolerated, but the excessive use of AOL speak is not.

You may have friends, but that doesn't mean you've developed fully to the same level someone who went to public school would have developed socially.

If a person in a very social area doesn't mean they will develop any better then a person who isn't. People react and develop differently.

That's a lot less true then you'd think. People actually react very similarly on a basic level. The lack of social contact, and ability to work in a realistic environment with other people in homeschooling is not good for a fully developed psyche, or does it build proper work habbits.
