Shadow Silk Hood is one of the best items one can bind in dungeoneering.
This item makes you ''invisible'' to any humans, including skeletons, zombies, and hill giants. However, forgotten mages, skeleton mages and shade's can disable this effect for a short period of time, making you visible. By invisible, I mean they aren't hostile towards you.
Receiving a Shadow Silk Hood drop is pretty rare, there's a 1/65 chance of getting one. It doesn't have anything to do with your Dungeoneering level.
At low levels you're probably better off keeping the Shadow Silk Hood. When you get 80 or 90 defence and can wear Gorgnoite/Promethium platebodys, you should unbind the SSH and get a platebody instead.

Ditch the SSH at 80 defense. Avoiding enemies isn't that useful, especially considering one lone mage or spider can aggro everything you were trying to avoid.

SSH is probably the most over rated dg item in the game, I see people with it all the time, and when I am grouped with them they will more than likely get their shit pushed in.

Also, if you are doing solo dungeons you might as well forget about the hood altogether.

Imagine made a post somewhere i'm not 100% of its location i think it's in the free guides section, it's how to not suck at dung (im not saying you suck) but he gives some valuable info in his little guide so you'd learn more about the SSH and how it's not the best to bind, bind the plate again.

    Gl with your dung.

SSH used to be the best defensive bind for people between lvl 50-100dg.

Dungeons nowadays are way too fast-paced for the SSH effect. A platebody is better. (This comes from my own dungeoneering experience, I don't know how botting that skill goes.)

One mage in a room generally is enough to not have the SSH effect for that room and the next few though as far as I know. Once that happens, you'll have no armour at all and get hit by all 3 types of the combat triangle. I'd definitely go for a plate again.

    Yeah :)

Pretty much ssh is fine at 70 def if you're dunging legit ecause you can remove it when you're going to get exposed so you drastically cut down on downtime. If you're botting the bot doesn't do that, so the ssh is near useless and you're better off binding a platebody. Check kero's guide off in the free section for the botting idung guide :)

Plate is the best choice. Imo everything else is useless just like half the shit that jagex makes.

SSH is only better than Katagon plate if you do 5:5 larges legit. If you do iDungeon, a Katagon platebody is better. Like Imagine said, I have an in-depth explanation in my guide in the Free Guides section, here: http://sythe.org/showpost.php?p=11374566&postcount=12.

How is Shadowsilk hood useless? The ability to skip most of the basic monsters in the dungeon increases xp/hr and decreases the amount of food needed.. most Dungeoneering clans and groups at high levels find it unacceptable that you not have it.

That was true back in 2010 and the first half of 2011. Every decent dger has gotten rid of their SSH long time ago. Most clans won't accept you having one to be honest.

Yes, monsters will attack you less often technically, but because of how fast dungeons are nowadays (taking 15mins or less), it takes just one mage to remove the SSH effect, and that spell will stay on you for a few more rooms usually. Without the SSH effect you're basically a punching bag for every monster in the room, and you'll end up using MORE food than while using a platebody.

A SSH isnt a bad bind, but there are better ones. I used to have platebody+SSH as defensive binds before I bound a hex.

tl;dr: Dungeons are too fast to still use SSH.

You could always just skip all monsters outside of gd's by just running through them its not that hard. So a ssh is essentially just a convenience factor that wont increase xp/hr much if at all, its shit def will be very noticeable when you hit that boss door. More damage=more deaths=less xp if dunging legit turn off autoretaliate so you dont even turn to face the shit you want to run through, essentially preforming the function of the ssh.

If you do solo botting as you say its far better to have a platebody as it will increase your xp per hour.

And no its not very rare to get, at any level.
I think runescape wiki lists it as 'uncommon', I got mind around level 55.

It's a 1/16 chance, same with all slayer items in dungeoneering, bots don't know how to equip and unequip it so you are always targeted by mages, it's not worth it in my opinion, I have a prom 2h and hexhunter bow bound
