New Custom Comp Wont Support TV as Monitor (Help?)

Alright, So I spent a fair amount on building my first computer, and with the help of a few friends we got it up and running. It powers on, no beeps, BUT with an LG TV connected via HDMI it doesn't display anything. :'(

I'm curious if this is just because it's a new computer, or if it could be a graphics card issue. Can you use a TV as a monitor for a computer right off the Rip?

Main reason I'm wondering is so that I don't go spend $250 on a decent sized monitor if I don't have to.

Currently using a 65" TV with a full home theater in my living room with my Home theater/gaming pc. Worked right from the get-go as soon as it was plugged into my Denon Receiver, aswell as straight into the TV. You may have to check your BIOS settings or try checking your GPU settings on another monitor first before trying it on your tv. Perhaps something is disabled. Shouldn't have any issues with an LG TV...

Well after thinking about it. As long as it's not something wrong with the computer itself. Looks like I'm going to get a good monitor tomorrow. I'm already $3200 deep into this set up.. might as well spend a lil on a good monitor.

No beeps? At all? Sounds like your PC isn't even initializing then...

I have problems with using TVs as monitors. I have a 21" HDMI flatscreen, and it'll only do resolutions that fit the TV's resolution EXACTLY. Otherwise it won't display anything. For example, it works fine with 1360x768, but if I try something with a different ratio, like 1280x1024, it doesn't display anything.

So you could try to fiddle with the resolution, and see if that resolves the problem.

I said screw it and went out and got a nice little 27" monitor.. not too much smaller than the TV. And it WORKED. All in all, I FINALLY got everything set up. I'm quite a happy camper
