    Doomsday Preppers

There is a show on National Geographic called "Doomsday Preppers". The whole concept of the show is for families/individuals to show boat how they have preped for the end of the world as we know it. It is crazy how over board some of these people go for the one and million chance that something disastrous will happen. They end up wasting there time on earth worrying instead of living. This whole thread is really about asking if you guys have prepped at all for the "end of the world", or just what your hypothetical plan would be if say there was a collapse of all government and things turned to anarchy.

Are these people preparing solely for end of the world disasters? Or just normal disasters. Like Hurricanes and Earthquakes? If its for Hurricanes and Earthquakes I think that these people are wise (assuming they live in a Hurricane of Earthquake prone area). Actually, its this kind of preperation that saved my father's life. During WW2, His town was the target of a german bombing raid. Having a bomb-selter-like basement, equiped with some medical supplies and a limited source of water and food, saved his life. Though his house wasn't hit directly, but its always good to be prepared like that.

Anyway, currently, my family hasn't done any preparation.

I've never really given it thought. What is suppose to happen, happens. I mean how can you protect yourself from "the end of the world disasters"? If it happens and kills me, I'm dead. If not, I live on with my life. I also believe if these things ever happen, they'll happen way after my death. I don't think I will make any preparations.

Wow, just watched that whole thing. It was very interesting. I don't want to say that these people are crazy, because prepping seems more like a hobby to these people.

Yeah, I guess, the only reason I think this is because I live a totally different lifestyle. I can respect it.

    That is really interesting o_O

Is the whole concept of the show supposed to be about examining these people who have this sort of "problem", where they live their lives constantly worrying and preparing for worst-case-scenario situations and natural disasters? Or is the show supposed to educate people about how to properly prepare for disasters?

I've seen similar shows on National Geographic, except that are completely hypothetical. They use actors to basically show "scenarios" of exactly what might happen if certain disasters occured, if the world came to an end, or what would happen if the world were to run out of oil, fresh water, etc. They are pretty interesting shows actually, and it kind of makes you think.

As for my own disaster preparedness, my family has a ton of water and dried foods packaged downstairs in case there was ever a disaster and we basically had to survive in our home/basement for a length of time. There is enough food and water down there to probably sustain us for at least a few months. We also have a bunch of emergency supplies packaged away downstairs and in a cupboard upstairs - flash lights, batteries, matches & lighters, first aid equipment, etc.

The show isn't examining the people. It is pretty much people showing off how overboard they went, and then "experts" judge how prepared they are for immediate danger etc. One guy in the show built a huge underground nuclear shelter, with like 5 years of food and water for his whole family.

You're in America dude, that show is on TV because they know most of the drones in this country are going to watch it, lol. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just don't pay it any mind... The world isn't ending unfortunately, though I openly invite it to come any day now.

And honestly, no one is going to be prepared, and I predict the end to be very catastrophic if something were to happen, so there's not much we could do to stop it/prepare for it anyway.

I watched an episode and it was kind of really depression that those kinds of disasters could happen like a nuclear war or an killing flue epidemic. I wouldn't call them crazy or "stupid" because they are preparing for something that might actually happen but there is a point where its just insane. Like on one of their episode the people said that he had wasted all of his saving plus more just to prepare for something that might not really happen. They wasted their time that they could of used to have to have more fun moments with their family.
