Curious to see where people stand on this. Do you believe this was good/bad, and what's your reasoning?

I'm actually really surprised it was enacted during the Clinton Administration.

Edit: I'm pretty much on the boat, "If you're willing to die to save stuff you believe in, it shouldn't matter if you're gay, or not."

Quite a few people care, actually. There are numerous soldiers saying they don't plan to re-enlist. And on the contrary - your sex has everything to do with it. What about co-ed bunks, showers, etc? They don't have them for a reason.

One that, from the looks of it, didn't want to deal with the numerous problems I bet will be arising in the near future.

Just because Homosexuals are attracted to the same sex doesnt mean they're going to molest you or whatever at any chance they get.. who cares about showers? It all boils down to homophobia, people who are scared of actually developing attraction to people of the same sex.

IMO, if someone wishes to enroll for national service for their own country and is willing to die for it, no-one should deny their right to just because of their predetermined sexuality.

Never thought about it that way. We do, though, have this stupid sense of patriotism.. even though we constantly go against our "values".
And im talking about the country as a whole.

I know this may sound dumb and immature.. but i honestly can't wait to move back to Canada.

So why isn't it coed bunking? Just because I'm physically attracted to women doesn't mean I'm going to molest them either. It's the same principle, yet for whatever reason, it doesn't work both ways. Why is that?

I agree with the repeal. Anyone who wishes to fight for their country should get the chance. Plain and simple.

Well tbh 2 years ago i would of said die faggot. but as ive gotten older and met new people i realized it doesnt matta as long they dont touch me ya kno. I will say this tho im on both sides of this arguement.
1: i feel people should be able to be w.e they want were they want.
2: i wouldnt be comfortable in the military knowing the dude next to me is homo. Why same thing as being in the locker room in high school. would u wanna shower next to gay guy knowing hes looking? most straight guys would say fuck no n blast em.
    3. Its not a easy thing and id say stick with what works. Being tolerant isnt in every1s heart. Being proud and yelling ur gay could cause a shit storm and a whole shit load of harrassment. the military doesnt care they just dont want the b/s.
    4. Ur there to do ur job thats it. leave ur personal shit at home boys..../girls sry =0

As long as the troops are allowed to choose whether they want to stay in the same tent with gays/straights, I guess that it's okay

try to keep the harm minimal, aye?

Is this your reason to ban gay people from the military?

    100 men, 10 women, 10 gay people

    co-ed showers/bunking,
    100 men rape 10 women> possible
100 men rape 10 gay people> possible but they don't want to
10 gay people rape 100 men> what's more likely is that those 10 gay guys get beat up if they try.
    10 women rape anything> (lol)

and I assure you, the only problem with homosexuals in there is straight people being homophobe.

Where do you come off thinking there will be mass rape? Also, why is it wrong for someone to feel uncomfortable by someone else? Why is it society, in a way, forces everyone to become accepting of everything? As much as people have the right to be homosexual, people should have the right to at least feel uncomfortable around them, let alone anyone else.

Any topic regarding homosexuals is always a bit funny to me. I personally believe they should have any right that a straight man or woman does. As do many others. It seems the majority of those who see this different are the homophobes. They're secretly so afraid that they themselves may be the thing they "hate", that they try to refuse and avoid any and all association/contact with gays.

Then there's the other bit of haters who see gay people as less than themselves, basically seeing them as inhuman and below them. How can something a person can't even control, and that IS a part of human nature, be something that makes them inhuman and be denied their rights given to them as a human being?

To sum it all up, I hate nothing more in this world than a racist or sexist human being, and I wish humans would realize that a human is a human, no matter their race, choices, sex, or sexuality.

As in they have the right to be who they are.

As soon as someone seems to express some form of uncomfortableness, they're classed as, "naive" or "yet to mature". Either way, I'm going off topic.

What does your sexual orientation have to do with your capability to perform your duties?
Does it hinder the soldiers in ANY WAY? lol
I don't understand why our society (the states) is so damn backwards
