    restore Ipod

Does anyone know how the fuck I can restore my stupid ipod when:

    1) my ipod wont turn on or respond at all, and:
    2) my computer doesnt recognise it, When Itunes says "ipod is corrupt bla bla" I click restore and it gets stuck half way...

If it's still under warranty, take it back. If it doesn't turn on at all, and it doesn't do anything when you plug it in, then the battery might be fucked, apparently they only have 1000 hours of life in them, I used all that in a year and 2 weeks, the warranty was gone 2 weeks too early :(.

Is your iPod a solid state model or one with a hard disk? (Like, is it a nano/touch or is it a bigger model?) Many friends of mine with hard disk iPods, especially the 5th gen video ipods, seem to have problems with corrupt drives in their iPods. These problems seem to be isolated to hard disk iPods; nanos and touches dont seem to suffer as badly.

From what I can understand, the problem lies with the hard disk itself. If the iTunes restore is not working, the next step is to attempt to recover the entire drive. The easiest way to do this is to reformat the disk. On an apple computer, this can be done with the 'Disk Utility" application. Simply select the iPod hard drive from the side menu when it is plugged in. On windows, I believe you need to access the drive from the 'My Computer' menu, and then select drive option>advanced>reformat, although I'm not quite sure. If the drive reformats correctly, try restoring it again with itunes and it should work.

If you cant reformat the drive, there is most likely a rather serious error caused by some physical damage to the drive, (likely water damage or the read/write head has had a collision with the drive disk). I believe you MAY be able to fix this by partitioning the drive and trying to find what part is corrupt, although even if this works it will mean you only have half of the ipod space you started with.

If the above didnt help/work, its time to get a new hard drive for your iPod, or just a new iPod. If you've actually got a nano or other solid state iPod and Ive typed this for naught, then I have no idea what the problem may be.

Yeah its a 6 gen classic 120gb. Im guessing the hard drive is rooted, Its only like 2 months old tho, So its definitaly in warrenty. My computer wont even register it when i plug it in so theres no way I can format or restore it :S

I shall send it back to apple, There is no physical damage done on my behalf, Its in a plastic case so it doesnt even have a scratch on it.

Really annoying spending $330 for something that doesnt last 2 months....

Yeah, sending it back to apple is your best bet. I'm a little bit suprised it wont even turn on though; to me that suggests that it's something more then just the hard drive. I dont really know to much about 6th gens though, my experience is mostly with the 5th gens. With those, you could take the hard drive out, and the iPod would still turn on and be recognized, it would just have the sad iPod face on it.

Hope Apple doesnt give you the run around. Their products are great, I just wish they would stand behind them and not turn their backs on the customer when anything goes wrong.

Seams tho the battery was completely dead, It died when i wasnt even using it for a day. Somehow its managed to come back and its letting me charge it, Tho not sure yet if its going to stay charged once I disconnect from the computer. If it dies again Il get apple to give me a new battery.
