Rules not being enforced in RS Server Dev section

^ That is the link to the Runescape Server Development section.

As you can see through the many threads in it, the rule where "you are not allowed to post your server here, but the section is for discussion only" is not being enforced at all. (link to rule: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=966443)

My suggestion is that the rule-in-question be abolished. No one seems to be fixing that section up anyways (if someone is, my apologies to you) but I just don't see anyone.

If it's decided to not abolish the rule, the least a mod (that pertains to that section) can do is clean it up.

Edit: I would like to thank Determinate for dealing with this issue (as much as he could). Requesting a closure for this thread.

If you see a problem with a post, report it with the little caution symbol thing in the top right hand corner of the post and put the reason you are reporting it in the text box. A moderator will get to it when possible.

Well, no. I don't think the rule should be abolished, as we have special sections to promoted your RSPS's. I do think the rule should be enforced more, and that the RSPS promotion section should come to the front a bit more (it's hard to get to).

No I would like to see this rule kept in place. There is a lot of new comers that will come around and post sketchy links to potentially harmful servers. The problem in that section is not that nobody is cleaning it up, I am quite confident that any of the RS moderators would be happy to get rid of those threads if people took the time to report the posts. That rule is there to keep people safe from harmful downloads, and should absolutely stay in place. I will try to report some more of those threads myself but the mods are busy doing other reports too, it is unlikely for them to happen upon these threads without them being reported. So as long as more people start reporting it won't be a problem anymore.

The rule should not be removed.

A side-note to your issue though, is the issue of spam.

    This occurs in every section.

This includes bumping once every 24 hours, which is a major breaker by most people, particularly 'newcomers' (people who recently joined).

Therefore I would propose a mandatory (splash-screen?) which pops up once someone decides to register to be apart of the forums with a link to the Sythe.org Official Rules thread, or something along those lines.

However as suggested by previous posts, the report feature is very useful.

I tried to clear up the first couple pages of the section.

You have my apologies for letting this happen. I used to be pretty active in the RSPS scene, but I've since not concerned myself with it.
As such, I didn't do much in that section unless I came across a spam report from there.

I will try to look at it more often from now on though.

Thanks for dealing with the issue, Determinate.

To the rest of you, thanks for thinking that I am a dumbass.

@Lyt- I know how to report a thread, but there is no sense in reporting 20+ threads from multiple pages.

@Millen- The link to promote your RSPS is literally the first/second link at the top when you go to the RS server development section.

@Scottayy- Your argument is that if the rule is abolished, then newcomers will start posting sketchy links to their RSPS'. What's stopping them from doing it currently? Nothing, the rule doesn't stop the sketchy links being posted, just what you can put in that section. They can go post the links in the Regular RSPS section, and nothing is stopping them.

@Jeff.- The rules and ToS are shown to you before you complete your registration. They are there, but people don't seem to read them.
