Does the World still have HEROES? DISCUSS.

    My story behind the question...
I first came along this question when it was an essay topic in English class. I was originally asked if "America still had heroes." I figured since Sythe has many different members from different regions I should attempt to make it apply to any place in the world. So, I made the topic much more broader to help the discussion go on. I ask you this simple question,
"Does the world still have heroes"?

In my opinion there is not correct or incorrect answer to be posted. This question is mostly opinion based and I believe many people have different views to post. I am highly curious on what other people are going to say. If you want to make it less broad and make it apply to your country that is reasonable as well.

    DISCUSS.

I will be typing my opinion on this question soon.

You ask me to define hero. Clearly it is your opinion. If your definition makes it to were the world has heroes, post your opinion and definition.

Why should one lurk around in a semantical debate? If you don't define what a hero is, the debate will be centered exactly that.

In that case, you've turned this into a dictionary war with absolutely no meaning or deeper purpose.

When did the world ever stop having heros? What do you consider police officers, fire fighters, doctors?

Well I guess we see on different levels. When someone saves the life of another person I consider them a hero. When someone arrests a person who can potentially kill another person I consider them a hero.

Not all people may consider a police officer, fire fighter, or doctor a hero. You did not post your definition of a hero so we cannot further describe your view. If you want us to understand your thinking then you must tell us what you believe a hero is.

A random view for you. Lets say a doctor could have helped someone that you loved and messed up in the operation or gave them the wrong medication that ended their life. Would you still consider them a hero?

There is no right or wrong definition of the word hero. The word hero is like the word flying or mechanical. There is no true definition of it. This will not become a dictionary war because all answers are opinion based. If you want to debate with someones statement about being hero then you look at their definition and use it to debate against their statement.

What if they arrest someone believing they are guilty when they are truely innocent to what they are being accused of. Is the person who arrested the innocent person a hero?

Yes I would still consider them a hero despite the fact my loved one died. Because they are still helping people and saving lives. My definition of a hero is anyone who helps society by helping people and preventing evil. I don't limit the tag Hero to just firemen, police officers, and doctors. I would consider Mother Teresa, Ghandi, and MLK heros as well. They dedicated the majority of their lives to helping society.

All semantical arguments are inherently boring to debate

    - You say this
    - He says that

Both are by their own definitions, correct. There's just absolutely nothing creative about it.

Well in this case they are not a hero, but you cannot judge and penalize the entire police force off of one person.

If it is so boring to debate then why are you flaming about it. No one asked you to post your opinion about the thread itself. Instead post your view and opinion. It is creative because you get to share your views with other sythe members.

He's flaming about it, because shit threads like this ruin the SFA section. Tbh, this deserves to be in the General-Off-Topic section.

To me, the reason for this thread is so you can gather enough information for your little project.

I have already finished the project it was due yesterday actually. The project was about "Does America Still Have Heroes?" not the world. It was a VFW Essay. It just made me think and wonder about what other people think.

    1. Stop quoting threads before the actual content.
    2. Your teacher specifically said America, because I doubt she'd assume you guys knew/cared about foreign affairs.
    3. To not be a complete spammer, yes, there are still hero's. The answer is quite obvious.
