    Broken Down Door

My friend was at this girl's house that he knew. There was no one in her house to let her in, so she told my friend and another one of my friends to break down the door. They kicked it once and then she pushed it and the frame split. Now, the dad is pissed, and is supposedly gonna press charges. But, we don't think he is because he's trying to get my friend to pay $700, I think that he might just lie about the price because he figures that my friend is scared so will pay w/e it takes to not get in trouble. He wants to know whether or not to tell his parents, or to consult his lawyer, or pay up. We think that maybe if we figure out the real price we could get it for cheaper. Any thoughts?

That was really a dumb idea to break the door down. The kid should tell his parents, and then they should all figure it out. Doors usually aren't 700$ unless it's stretched to be that much.

Yup, breaking and entering is pretty stupid. Even if the girl said it was okay, it wasn't her house legally, so the dad has all rights to sue/ask for money. A split door frame can cost well over $1,000 to fix because (1) the molding of a door has to be replaced, (2) the door itself must be replaced, and (3) someone has to get paid to do it. Your friend needs to tell his parents and get a lawyer if the dad wants to press charges. What parents can do to you is nothing compared to the legal system. I'd suggest an out of court settlement. Good thing your friend is young or he could be charged with breaking and entering and vandalism quite easily.
