The mystery of RW Observer

If you go to the Clan Camp on World 8 right now, or at any time for that matter. Chances are that you will see a level 4 account dressed in a Cabaret Outfit standing almost in the middle of the recruiting area. Come back an hour later, maybe two and he'll still be there. Come back a week later and there he stands. Who is this player? His name is RW Observer.

This player is one of the few anomalies in rs, he is seen standing in the Clan Camp on World 8 at all hours, completely silent and motionless. Never uttering a word and never moving a space. He has been standing in the same spot in the clan camp since March of 2013 for 12 to 16 hours a day, sometimes longer. He was first confirmed to have been spotted back in August of 2009 where he was standing in Varrock for almost a week and has been spotted in different locations around Runescape since then. Although he was first confirmed in 2009, some players have reported to have seen him in Falador as far back as 2005.

What does this player do? Why is he always standing there? Nobody knows. However several theories have been proposed as to why he does this. They range from him being a moderator to an RWT Executive. It is unlikely that he is a bot, being that he will periodically log in and out, move back and forth sometimes and will very rarely respond to peoples questions and remarks with an emote.

There are several other accounts that have been seen standing with him for long periods of time however this focuses only on RW Observer.

In the picture above (taken on August 24th) RW Observer is the player on the right in the grey suit, the player in the blue suit has been seen standing with RW Observer constantly and the account behind him has been standing with him for several hours.

I'm interested to see if he's actually online right now. It can't be just someone doing it on their own will.

 

This is cool. I like finding out about little oddities like this on games or otherwise. Peaks my curiosity.

 

It's a little creepy...

 

It's probably a jagex bot checking for rulebreakers in friends chats, or it's someone who's perm muted and likes being famous from doing nothing.
