Operation OMU - Obtain more users.

Hey, so it's me.. again.

I have come up with an idea, I know this may or may not have been suggested previously; as it's such a simple idea to gain more user base within Sythe.org

First of all, we need members who are willing to co operate and participate within this operation.

My proposal, is that we, as a group, create a few mule accounts within RS07/RS3 and advertise Sythe.org. To prevent any IP bans - I would be willing to chip in to purchase a VPN/S?? (not sure which is which). I would also be willing to contribute some money to memberships of users who would be willing to do this. I am hoping we will gain the interest of any new and respective members to add to our already large user base.

This is purely discussion at the moment, I am hoping to gain some interest and/or opinions on better ways to go about this.

I thought about it few weeks ago but im afraid it may censor 'sythe' word in rs and it would bring potential mods too :-/

 

I'm sure it would sensor the word Sythe, but you see all the time mule accounts advertising websites with ways around the sensors.

Hmm, that could be a worry with regards to the moderators - BUT, with that being said, I'm sure there is already mods here; and what harm can they really do?

 

This has been tried before in rs and other games but it eventually fizzles out due to lack of interest. It also costs quite a bit to do so through membership, etc.

 

When it was tried, do you know how successful it was within that period of time? and how long it was around for? If you set up 10 accounts within RS3 to start out with - it wouldn't cost a cent.

As stated though, If we give it a trial run and all is successful; I'm more than willing to contribute to help fund the project.

 

Been done before, and wasn't that successful.

People like KMJT, karlrais and others who've had in the past GP farms on VPS's with around 20-25 bots running at a time have attempted this, and the results were hardly fruitful. (Wasn't KMJT and karl that did it, but those that did had mass amounts of bots running on VPS's.)

Also the fact that with the nature of RS today, it would more than likely result in Mods becoming aware of what's going on, and may lead to unwanted attention.

 

Wasn't that successful? how did you guys gauge the success from said operation?

In my opinion, every Jmod knows about Sythe.org, and grasping their attention wouldn't be something out of the ordinary? Is it some form of legality issue that big rich may have to uphold or? what are we worried about?

 

Advertise on forums giving people 20% discount from trusted gold / account vendors etc etc and do this for multiple games like wow / LoL.

Give them an incentive for joining or even possibly offering a prizes or itunes cards or something

 

From what I can recall everyone was very positive about it and what-not at the time but there wasn't a sudden influx of members that I noticed (sythe would know more about this statistically)

Regardless back when I played RS everyone that I knew just ignored the people that spammed websites. When you have to compete with all the other websites and with the common runescape player simply adding spammers to their ignore lists or what-have-you, the rewards don't seem to be that sweet.

 

Hmm, that is true. I personally don't take notice of the spammers - considering most of them are phishing websites anyway. But with Sythe having a reputation already, I'm sure people would view it differently? Hell, we could even individually target people who seem to be RWTers?

It's all ideas at the moment, but if we don't gain interest, then so be it.

And also in runescape a way to get people interested would be to host some kind of drop party? Or give away like 100k to random people while promoting Sythe

Fan sites. I don't mean directly advertise : OOO COME TO SYTHE NOWWWW.

Sneaky advertising like in peoples signatures.
Also like on powerbot have trusted vendors advertise there gold shop but if order is placed threw sythe PM system you get 10% discount.

All that sort of stuff? And if we get the guides section going we can post half a guide on some sites and then on say view full guide and it opens up the sythe post

sythe is prestiges in the sense that it never really needed this, although i like it, a good start to obtaining more users is keeping them, so maybe less trolling inside/outside SF from some and more participating in threads would be the best way to start, It's the internet man we just want somewhere that has allot of traffic, if we encourage like 10-12 people to participate in a single thread out of the 800 people online the activity alone would encourage more users to come and stay.

 

I agree with Muzza here. It starts with building activity on the sites level first. If we could get more users to participate in prize/no prize events, it will make our site appear to be more active. We also need something that sets us apart from other markets. I am willing to help you out ASAPgang. I just don't know if Runescape itself is the route we should take. I would think advertising on sites related to RS may be the way to go Tip.it, RuneHQ etc.

 

RuneHQ won't work, AFAIK, they are an official RS fan site. Meaning, they are acknowledged by Jagex.

Signature advertising to those that use a multitude of forums would also be a good starting platform. I'm sure all the market users here that are involved in RSGP merching are also active on powerbot (market section). If we can convince that demographic to advertise Sythe.org in their signature, it may have a small impact.

Also the fact that advertising Sythe.org in signatures of users that use both sides isn't 'bad for business' persay, as said users would have shops on both sites.

Maybe one of our GFX artists here could make a nice catchy Sythe.org advertisement signature.

 

It depends if there is still that free 14 day trial, otherwise it is just a waste of money because they will get banned so fast. Even with the free trial, they will get banned so fast that you will get tired of making accounts over and over.

 

I agree with Ziggily - I think more community events to spike site activity would be a good start. The chess tournament, despite a small registration window, had 39 competitors (I think?) and currently has over 150 posts on its thread. If we got some more community events organized, the outcome could be really positive

I'm thinking game events, contests, that sort of thing. A friend of mine ran an online karaoke contest on her domain with entries submitted through a free voice recording site, and the outcome was a ton of people turning out to sing (some badly ) and a major community boost

 

I was going to try running two tournaments at once but I'm not sure how it'd go.
