    The Botting Situation

With all the recent controversy surrounding botting in the game, including 'Botany Bay', hi-score bans and all the '12' year bans, it poses an important and even amusing question. You see, after all, it is, JUST a game. Botters are always seen as the 'scum' of the game, and whenever someone bots, they always feel just a little guilty. The question arises, "Is botting really that bad?" JaGeX wants everyone to play legitimately. However, to be a relatively good and legitimate player, this means hours and hours of sitting behind a computer clicking colours on a screen. Now, of course, maybe some people may want this, and I'm not saying that this is bad; if you want to slave away in front of a screen for the rest of your life on a computer game, then sure, go ahead. Yet most people who bot HAVE lives, who go out and work, play and have fun, in THE REAL WORLD (yes, I said it).

So I am just asking, whether botters are really as bad as JaGeX and the rest of the RuneScape community makes out.

I mean, most botters do truly have lives in the real world. Does JaGeX just want us all to be obese slaves to their game, wasting our money on membership to our own demise?

    What are your thoughts?

Who cares, It is just a game. People who don't bot are mad at others who have the balls and are willing to risk an account being banned. There's an exception to those really old fags who have been there for like +8 years.

On another side, if you worked hard for a bunch of stuff, wouldn't you be mad if the Chinese goldfarmer downed the price of raw materials? i know i would. Most people see boting in the perspective of everyone crashes the price of everything. When I know for a fact i dont do that. I use the raw materials to get my counter skill (ex. fishing and cooking) up.

But seriously, why get butthurt over a game. In all honesty it's like the call of duty ragers, who cry because they got a 1:00 KD.

I played runescape legitimately for like 6 years and I accomplished more in a year of botting then I did in the 6 years. It made the game more fun for me because I could go to work or go workout and come home and be able to do GWD or another boss. Only took a little while until I had almost all combat skills 99 (95 pray) and many other various 99s.

I think botters used to be viewed as deplorable cheaters who ruined the game. But last summer, leading into October 2011's "Bot Nuke", botting became so common and casual that we were no longer seen as the 'scum of the game', because one was pretty much forced to bot just to compete with others -- which is certainly not good for Runescape.

From a gamer's perspective, it's understandable why the players who have never botted would be so adamantly against those who do little work and are equal or better than them in gameplay. And the only information Jagex and all the Runescape Fan Sites feed them is that all botting software is keyloggers and viruses that will steal their accounts.

It does create a rather large discord. Perhaps you remember the rather vocal pro-botting riot after last year's nuke.

I think early October of last year is pretty good evidence that the game could have been successful while having a majority of players being botters. And financially sustainable, too -- unlike now, when Jagex requires the Squeel of Fortune and Soloman's General Store in order to stay solvent.

I don't think Jagex has an interest to those who bot.
They seem more mad at the gold farmers.
Such as Ivy botting it isn't a major deal as I have sui'd it before.

Honestly, botting ruined the fun in the game for me. It seems lame, but, I'd rather fish for lobsters with a few irl friends, than bot 20 hours a day. Obviously, now that I bot, I can see my friends in real life, but it ruined the fun in the game nevertheless.

It's my personal opinion that they don't care about botting unless you are botting gold. I have literally over 350 days of playing (botting) time (like hours played on my adventure log) and I have never been banned. I also have never botted with the intent of goldfarming.

If you are a paying member and just botting skills for the levels and not ruining the game for others, I think they could care less.

The issue they have is with the gold farmers who combined have thousands of accounts at the same spot on every worlds doing the same thing.

Succinctly; botting defeats the purpose of a game. A game is there to be played, not to be subdued by mindless bots.

Many people blame Jagex, but really, the content that is forced into the game is for the most part controlled Insight Venture Partners. They are the ones who are ones behind all the shitty rwt updates such as SoF, the General store. They introduced highly similar micro-transaction updates to another game they own - maple story, which is another game ruined by them.

The only thing I've ever disliked about bots is that whenever I wanted to level my mining or another resource skill, it was such a fight for the resources. But on the flip side it made skills like smithing and firemaking a load cheaper.
