DMM Alternative

Going to try and make this quick, just a random thought I had. Basically, Deadman Mode would be the true revival of the old game's amazing pking content that is currently not offered in the main game, however there's quite a controversial argument about how the game should be played/reasons why it dies so quickly.

I think the main reason people play/enjoy it is the fact that you build towards a goal, have a fun pking environment, and also can go from a dollar to a dream in a few minutes if you're talented enough. Not to mention that although it's a grind, if you're cautious you can max out combat fairly quickly.

This 'achievement' feeling is what makes me enjoy playing, and I assume others are similar. I would say Ironman would be a similar feeling, but the fact that you're working so hard to make an amazing account and your end-game is pretty much nothing, completely pointless. I can see why most players who don't pk, have no interest in it, or never tried it can find this fun, because the game's end-game is pretty similar. Max out, do slayer, do some skilling/diaries, and pretty much do nothing apart from get cool gear and kill monsters. That's fine, everybody plays differently, but what do you think about a true grind game where nobody could trade, there was no 'safe spots' (like banks) and you were an ironman, start from level 3, grind your ass off, but you could pk anywhere. Literally you could kill people in any place you want apart from the 1 step on the bank stall (unless previously in combat).

I feel like this would be fun, it would give end-game to ironman, and you could fully loot kills (obviously off of other ironmen) which would make pking have a purpose, you don't NEED 85 slayer to get a whip, you can kill somebody with one, but you can't buy/sell/trade them, it would be a game mode where if you want resources, you get them yourself or kill somebody for them.

Thoughts?

I have, but also you couldn't RWT unless it was another ironman suiciding gear in which case would take a VERY long time to earn, gold selling from farmers or swappers would be almost non-existent since you couldn't just trade or farm gold

 

I think this would be a good idea, have thought about something similar as this would definitely stop certain people from having the most OP gear in just a weeks time, glad to see that you're back as well.

 

I really like the idea of ironman DMM as it would reward efficient play and give solo players a much better chance of competing - it would be cool to try it out for at least one season. Not sure how I feel about almost completely removing safe zones though, that might be way too chaotic.

Really interesting idea, definitely think a world should be created for this as i'd be well up for playing! gives a much more competative angle on the game - i genuinely think it would be ultra popular among deadmanmode users.

 

Interesting concept but has a few problems

1) Clan man mode would still be a problem
2) It's difficult to keep a game mode alive when the majority of the community (casual players) can't compete w/ no life clans like Rot/leg ends that bot/play 12 hours a day.
3) Although the concept is fun , you'll be back in the age-old dmm problem that if you don't play within day of release it's practically impossible to get into the game as you'd be way too for back.

 

Your post first reminds me of the version of darkscape where you could practically kill people in banks if you found a guard out of reach.
Problem with it being "ironman" with no trades to eliminate "RWT/Swaps" is you would quickly see people just let the other person/friends "kill" them to transfer items... So it defeats the whole purpose of getting the items on your own. Even with stats lost on death people still would find a way around that by using mules with bad stats to just die so they could transfer their items.
Anyways the upcoming minigame called "Last Man Standing" seems like a good idea with its hunger games style-fight to last person with the idea based around deadman mode with fog and pking everywhere. Seems like a good option as everyone gets a max stat account each game and would be quick games with no hassle for players who can't dedicate hours everyday to playing.
