    Steam Related-Sales Moderator Activity Lacking

I have noticed that since Sengira was banned, there has been much necessary back-seat modding because there seems to be a lack of moderators monitoring the Steam-Related Sales part of Sythe. I guess this thread is feedback but also some suggestions.

    1. "You may not sell phished accounts, as this goes under "Password Cracking" you'll get permanently banned for this. Consider this as your only warning."

This problem seems to be on the rise as many people are posting threads like "Random Steam Accounts ($.50)" I understand if you have a shop and are selling maybe 4 or 5 accounts but there are many threads that are selling 40+ accounts which clearly, isn't just "reselling".

    2. "Threads with accounts that are 4 digits* or lower have to be verified by a staff member."

Is there a Sythe moderator group dedicated to verifying steam accounts. Suggestion: Establish a list of moderators in which people who are selling low digit accounts know who to contact for verification.

    No offense djweasel ^.^

Ultimately we have threads that go unverified.
    http://www.sythe.org/steam-sales/1521465-selling-my-4-digit.html
    http://www.sythe.org/steam-sales/1502373-steam-3-digit-steam-account-top-pop.html
    http://www.sythe.org/steam-sales/1514127-strings-rare-account-shop-3dig-uniques-etc.html
    http://www.sythe.org/steam-sales/1511310-wts-sick-4-digit-hl1-go-pop-2.html

(That last thread, the member is still posting on other people's threads about the 4 digit although it still hasn't been verified.)

    3. "Before you are able to sell a steam account, you have to post pictures of its Steam ID, email/VAC status and games. If you are selling more than 8 accounts contact a staff member for verification."

The first part about the steamID, email/vac status, games is a problem on almost 90% of all newcomers threads. They always are lacking the necessary screenshots in order to sell their accounts. The second part about the 8 accounts or more part of the rule is almost unused. I haven't seen one mod actually sit with a sythe member and verify 8 accounts.

    Skip to this conclusion (TLDR):
This is not a bashing of moderators as if I do report the threads by clicking the yellow triangle, the Sythe Staff does a great job responding to the reports. However, I feel that the time it takes for the moderators to go through the reports, something bad is going to happen whether it be a member selling cracked accounts or advertising for a low digit steam account which they possibly may not even possess. In short, I feel either modify the Steam Related Sales Rules which I highly do NOT Recommend, or just increase moderator activity in this part of Sythe and make sure sellers are following the rules. I'm not sure if this problem is happening in the Runescape section of Sythe as I do not play the game, but these problems do arise in the Steam Related Sales.

Thank You for Reading This. Sincerely,
    Mitchell the Great

I am not against having dedicated moderators to specific sections. Maybe staff could rotate. There needs to be some staff organisation.

This could work out well, I'm sure we've not had a WoW moderator since FlyingToast either. I'm sure they could have market perms as well?

I tried my best a while back, but since Sengira stopped moderating the section has needed a lot of love.

I remember when you took over Sengira's job of monitoring the Steam Related Sales. I spend 99% of my 6 hour time period on Sythe checking the Steam Section and I notice that the amount of moderation is decreasing and is almost nonexistent now.

I'd love to see something happen about that section. It's definitely not as well looked after as it should be. I already have something in the SL about it, so rest assured, we know there's a problem with how it's currently done.

You call me out after I ask why I'm being asked about this.

I have NEVER been into steam, I don't know where anyone would get that, I remember having told someone it was almost 8 years since I've logged in.

DJWeasel, in no way am I trying to criticize you or call you out. I was just using your post as an example that Sythe should have a dedicated staff where users can see who actually uses steam instead of contacting moderators like yourself who do not even use the client. I'm sorry if my quote has offended you as it was just an example of a moderator being contacted to verify a steam account who hasn't even logged into steam for 8+ years.

I agree with mitch that the section is lacking in moderator activities but that section is dead. 90% is full of hackers/ bruteforced accounts sales/ retracting account sales. I myself have witnessed this section die faster than ever. I have actually backseat modded that place abit I will admit and I got infracted for it :L due to mentioning rules which have been broken and asking people to follow them. I don't get how I myself would get criticized for helping out when no other mod decides to look at the section. However I digress, my point is this section needs help.

The steam is in fact filled bruteforcers, and steam crackers. However, there are legitimate members trying to sell their personal accounts to pay for living expenses or personal goods. It is inaccurate to deem the section dead as I see new members every couple hours selling steam related sales. The legitimacy of those new members is an entirely new question. Nonetheless, it seems that if the statement is correct that there are "90% hackers, etc", it further backs my point up about the necessity of strict moderating.

I agree that it would be nice to have a steam mod. But when I have 3 people pm me in the same day within a few hours about verifying steam accounts I wonder why. I mean I've never said anything about being involved so I didn't understand why my name was being brought up. I have spoke to Dave about it because he apparently assumed I played steam which I haven't in years.

I agree the section requires some watching over. On the subject of legality, it's pretty clear who is selling legitimate accounts, and who's been illegally obtaining such accounts. To be honest, anyone with more than one account is suspicious of such activities (because who needs more than one Steam account?).

I suppose all we can do is report the threads in question, and keep fingers crossed and hope people aren't complete idiots.

Basically what's left to do because I've seen people who are selling alot of accounts and I ask for proof and some can't provide so it's obvious they are stolen also.

I used to rely on someone trusted in there to verify. If someone trusted in my eyes knows enough about steam they could help me verify these accounts.

I remember when I was staff a few of us took an attempt at moderating Steam sales but it was very difficult considering most had little to no knowledge of it. It would be cool to finally see a market mod promotion who actually knows quite a bit about steam instead of everyone else attempting to learn about/ moderate the section.

I remember trying to ban a few people for hacked accounts but tbh there's never enough proof because most of them don't do it themselves but instead buy the accounts off other people.

The main problem with the term "proof" when it comes to steam accounts/gifts is what is considered sufficient proof. Just because the user can provide the email and VAC settings doesn't mean that he/she is the original owner or is an authorized reseller.

    Steps of a Steam Hacker/Cracker/Bruteforcer:
    1. Use a Bruteforcer to access an unverified steam account
    2. Screenshot the VAC/Email Verified tab
    3. Try to sell the Steam account on Sythe before the Original Owner Notices that his account has been hijacked.
    4. Original Owner notices his/her steam account has been stolen and provides proof of purchase to Steam Support
    5. Steam Support returns the account to the original owner
    6. Sythe Steam hacker has scammed victim out of his/her account.

I feel the only way a Steam Account can be safely and securely (as best as possible) is by transferring steam account with:

1: Original Keys Activated on the Steam account

2: Steam Email "Thank Your For Your Purchase

    3. Paypal Confirmation for Steam Purchase

This ^ is true proof of purchase to any steam account or gift and if a buyer receives these purchase confirmation emails, the account is less likely to be hacked.

They can also be lying to you and saying they buy the mass lists from other people. There is almost no way of confirming their story as when you ask for proof, all they have is a text file with username and passwords.

    I got a better question:

Why don't you follow the proper channels and post this in the suggestions section like everyone else? I just handled a bunch of them a couple hours ago.

    It's not exactly a suggestion, more of a question/discussion.

What about LoL-specific moderators? It would be useful to know which Sythe staff have involvement in LoL (to MM trades etc).

I'm assuming this is a troll post which is actually spam as it is not benefiting this thread in any way. This thread is mainly feedback to the lack of moderators in the Steam Related Sales. I have included some suggestions that I feel would benefit the section but RSProd has stated earlier that this problem is currently being discussed in higher lounges.

Creating another thread in the Suggestions section would seem a bit redundant, don't you think? Anyways, if you comment was a troll post like Jay Zee pointed out, please leave it in the Spam Section.

    Thanks,
    -Mitchell
