    Pretty much everything is illegal based on current US law when it comes to accessing or attempting to access computer systems. The law is simply too broad and overreaching.

    Yes. Accessing a computer system that you do not have permission to access is against the law. It is so broad that basically anything could be called accessing and thus basically everyone breaks it at some point. It just isn't enforced generally except for highly visible things.
