    Originality; Dead?

This could be considered an intelligent thread, for the few who can comprehend the word.

We live in a society today where individuality is rare, or even non-existent. We are all iPod listening, designer-clothes-wearing conformists. We all want to be like somebody, instead of being ourselves. We are so obsessed with looking high; we never look down on the surface and see the problems that lie in front of us. We often forget, without a valley there is no mountain. We should not be afraid of risk, questioning securities, or embracing life. We constantly find ourselves bounded by hurdles, and we view these hurdles as obstacles. These hurdles should not be viewed as obstacles, but instead as opportunities. In order to achieve a new style of life, we have to start embracing life, and embracing the present. We have to become individuals, and get away from the herd.

This also raises the question of social normalities... As a college student your "expected" to drink, and drink excessively... If you don't your considered "not cool." When and how did this happen? Why are their certain associations with being a college student? Your supposed to drink, your supposed to act like the fools on "Real World." This ties back in with being apart of the "herd." But why do we want to be apart of the herd? Why do we all have to fall into a certain "stereotype?" Where is the originality in our society?

What makes us unique from every other living being on this world is our possession of free will and consciousness; we are accountable for who we are and responsible for the way the world around us appears. Other people cannot tell us who or what we are, or what our existence means. We are the only ones who can determine what we can be for ourselves, and not what others want us to be. But this doesn't seem like the case... More often today, people are trying to "be like somebody," rather than be themselves.

Yes I know what you mean.
In my school it seems that the "average" girl wears Abercrombie and/or Hollister same with the boys.
But I always try to stay away from these brands of clothings.

Actually it's a bit ironic that the mall by me has an Abercrombie and a Hot Topic right next to each other.

I would pay it but I don't have the address. He might be gay but most men dress like this and it pisses me the fuck off how gay they have made themselves look.

Horray for non-conformity!! But the non-conformists are stereotyped into losers or loners. But I go against the flow and wear all plain stuff and I dont have an iPod that I actively use. :>
